End of first cycle. One less hogg triplet to go. She had one proper lamb (for a hogg), and two very lively tiddlers. She took against the larger tiddler, but he's adopted on successfully, along with the smaller of a hogg double ~ to a ewe that presented a humongous single that took one look at the world, and one breath before he snuffed it.

That's the first lambing to need a load of gell. Glad it wasn't my hand taking the brunt. I haven't lambed many this year, and haven't been called upon to talk anyone through a tricky one. The ewe's recovered very quickly. Anti-inflamatory really helps.

@Wood field , Please pass on my condolences to your good lady.

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting either of you but somehow, through the magic of TFF, I feel I know you both well.
Thank you , it’s a funny thing the internet.
This thread above all others seems to bring a sense of camaraderie ( that’s a hell of a word after 4 buds)

Would this be smallenburg haven’t really had any deformed lambs this time till yesterday. Lambed two like this last night and one this morning all in different lots all coming backwards lamb hunched in centre, back legs deformed and insides all spilled out on each occasion.

My magpie Magic Mike has been working away slowly, I nobbled 79 magpies last year so he can be forgiven having a slow start. Caught #7 this morning. Mrs BAF was going to town and then her sisters and was taking her a magpie for her trap. An hour and a half later I got this photo 😂 in the middle of Shrewsbury 😂 she didn't find it amusing when I said she best catch it. I think the town centre now has a new magpie!

Bloody sheep, just crossing the moor and found this shearling with a hanging lamb , back for fat Dave , and a textbook hold from him , why don’t people see it when it goes well , only when you fek up !
Delivered the lamb then true to form the ewe feked off , caught it again but wasn’t really interested Back with trailer and a day in the pen View attachment 1178647
Most of my pets are from shearlings!
Lambed in shed though so none of your keep fit stuff required 😀

I've had the odd one with the innerds on the outside over the years - before schmallenberg (spelling??) was a 'thing'.

But to have three in a row would maybe point to schmallenberg. Only a test would confirm it though, I guess.

So disappointing 😞. Schmallenburg can affect the spine. We had one that looked like it had spondylitis, but worse. I think the innards out'ards could be seriously rare coincidences, but that's only because they are so rare normally. As already said upthread, it would need a test.

And almost impossible to catch it again...

Good bag from Mike!! Not sure how many the bird here has caught, but he has done 2 winters now!! Struggled a bit this winter I think, but I covered the cage when the weather was bad and kept him dry. Had 7-8 this time already, so restocking traps about the county (y)

I remember several years ago Herself let her decoy out by accident. Much swearing went on!! He was bobbling around for a week or two, but would never go in again :) I say nothing, as maggie control is her hobby!!

Al fresco pens, now the weather has improved a bit? Mind bring her in, and and she would die from heat exhaustion....

Tidy lamb there.

Must be a 'woman' thing ' - Mrs YB is our magpie guru......

.......unfortunately our trap has suffered 'slight collateral damage' - it was in the shed for the winter and somebody (😱) 'nudged' it with a tractor wheel whilst trying to squeeze an extra implement undercover, thus rendering it unserviceable 😬

Fortunately our mole man has a spare and he's going to drop it off on Monday when he picks up his traps.

I had a kind neighbour release my call bird and 2 captives last summer! They also kindly handed in 2 of my badger traps. Unfortunately Pecky 3, my call bird, suffered extreme Stockholm syndrome and came back the next day. He did end up keeling over about a month later.

Annoying twits aren't they... 🤬

We won't leave our traps up the fields nowadays as always some busybody gobshite who will trash it, even when hidden. So ours is in the garden under an apple tree, with an extension from the poultry electric fence around it to deter 4 legged vermin.
