Thanks for the advice. Our first year on it and got quite a lot going in. Like you we are on milking wheat ground and do struggle somewhat on spring barley n’s so on paper this makes sense.We got over 2.0 - 2.4 %N from 150kg N with 7.0 - 7.5 t/ha. We were advised to go to 175 N, but I cut back due to dry weather. Chunk of the N needs to be late to get high N in grain. The strategy is opposite to normal malting SB, more akin to milling wheat.
Our land usually does milling wheat well, and with malting barley we struggle to keep grain N down, so high N Fairing contract suits us. Only done one year though, so treat results with caution.
