Farm Classifieds

What are everyone’s Thoughs on the new classifieds section on here ? I didn’t like the old system but the new one is really good and easy to use . I placed three ads last week and have had a great response . First ad and the largest ££ had an unbelievable amount of emails and phone calls and sold very quickly , I used some of my points to promote that listing and it seemed to work very well . The other two items as yet unsold but again loads of interest and viewings organised for next week on both . Certainly had a lot more serious inquiries and success that I have ever had by paying though the nose to advertise in some of the farming magazines.

Glad its worked for you

your advert had a massive reach, we reckon it was viewed directly by over 25,000 people in the 6 days it was listed across the various channels it was shared on, great thing about the new TFF Farm Classifieds system is the ease of share to facebook / twitter and linkedin groups so really complementary with existing free farmer classifieds sales channels like farmers free ads on facebook etc

Been a bit of a soft launch so far as there is a few more things we want to develop that are not quite ready yet plus we have taken on board the suggestions a few users have made so far and are trying to implement them ASAP but its certainly a big step up from the rubbish it replaced

Hope your other machines sell on there, still tempted by the harrow myself !

Looks like lots of new members and never any locations .
So in lay mans terms you look at ad ,click link and then another page comes up is it.
Thought at first ,scam as stuff looked bit cheap off some??
Maybe wrong.

The new classified section is much better, the only slight problem i have noticed is that when scrolling through the pictures if the screen is moved up or down the picture reverts back to the 1st picture

login to the classifieds site is not the same as your TFF username and login by default (although you can use the same name / password if you like ) being a registered user of TFF does not mean you are a registered classifieds user

2 reasons for this, first being its ads complexity to forum upgrade and maintenance. But also (and more importantly to keep scammers out we demand a lot more information from users of classifieds than we do the forum. A forum member only has to provide and email address but users of classifieds need location, name and contact number etc. to register before they are able to list a machine for sale, hopefully this will reduce the number of scammers or at least help police trace them if they still try !

A lot of the existing adverts from the old classifieds system (the last 3 months worth roughly) were imported when the new site launched so they were not lost- those users were given a number as a username (the number that is their TFF identifier) and all were emailed with instruction of how to change that and edit name or change their existing advert, some have bothered to and others haven't. All newly added adverts however will be from users with completed profiles

The new system has a feature on every listing page to report anything you suspect to be a scan ad so we can investigate and tae action - scam ads is becoming a massive problem on other sites so we are trying to use the power and combined knowledge of the TFF community to solve that here and make the site as safe as possible

So when I go to general for sale ,private sale and dealer sale threads on here TFF ,they will all come up as new members and not existing forum member we may know?
and thus when click on or want to reply to and advertiser we are then directed to new site is it?

if you view an add via a thread on TFF it will be posted by an automatic account "TFF Classifieds" as they get added to the Farm Classifieds site if the ad interest you and you want to see more detail there will be a link in the post you can click that will take you directly to the advert on the Classifieds site, it's there you can contact the seller via phone or the "contact seller" button which opens a message window - the seller then gets that message directly as an email

we are going to add an extra field to classifieds users profile where they can put their TFF username (if they have one) you could use that to use the forum PM system then if thats your preferred method of contact - thats in the next phase of development which we should get done next week

If you want to go search or browse the classified site it best done directly on the site rather than in the threads, click the button top right of any TFF screen to get there or directly at
https://www.classifieds.farm

work in progress as I say but a big step forward with more to come, please keep the ideas and suggestions coming as we really want this to be what YOU guys want it to be, as far as I can tell no one is doing Farm Classifieds well at the moment and even the poor attempts are expensive to use and simply have no traffic actually viewing the advert making them really rather pointless IMO

@Clive my query is how do you police " sold" items. There is a tractor which has been automatically Listed from the old site which I know had been sold.
On the old system it would have stayed indefinitely until marked as sold if ever, but do they have a time allowance now?

unlike the old site the person advertising it can remove their advert when the machines sells

if they don't all advert get removed after 90 days automatically unless the seller actively decides to run it again (ie if it hasn't sold yet)

obviously with the import of existing adverts form the old system being the starting point thats going to take 90 days to filter through although I know quite a few imported users have logged in and removed or edited a lot of those existing adverts

For dealers using the new site our system automatically can sync with there stock lists so as soon as they make a price change or a sale and adjust their system the TFF Farm Classifieds site is also updated

if any one with an existing imported advert created via the old site missed the email and wants to remove or edit their advert please get in touch and I will help you do that

Thanks for all the feedback, we have put together a further small list of development to improve it a little bit more. We have also spotted a few more things we would like to change.

We have already added the option to put TFF username against you Farm Classifieds account. Where this option is added, the aim is it will also show in the Private advert threads on TFF - so you can PM the seller as well.

We have to leave this optional as many users don't want their TFF account and Farm Classifieds associated. Ie they want to keep their TFF account anonymous.

New classifieds is a lot better but I reckon it will take the first 90 days before what’s truly for sale becomes clear, as it appears quite a few old adverts slipped thru during the transfer. I had 2 which were both a year old and have now deleted them.

It still needs a few tweaks to make it more user friendly but is getting there imo(y)

one suggestion I will make to the management is just because it’s clear to you guys who have worked on it for weeks it may not be obvious to casual browsers like myself.

You are right about that first 90 days, the import when changing over was not easy to get right and we made some mistakes, it would have been a LOT easier to start fresh but that would have upset those that had listings on the old system. We are working through sense checking and contacting sellers so we hope to accelerate that process as much as we can

Have taken on some of your suggestions from the other thread and they are on the development list, so watch this space ! Also have plans to ad eBay style auction functionality (free unlike eBay though) and a few other things we ran out of time for before launch

Making it as user friendly as possible was a VERY high priority (I even got my mum to beta test !!) but some stuff never become obvious until lots of users get involved, feedback is mostly very positive from those that are using it but please EVERYONE keep it coming, good or bad we want yo know and want to make this what you guys want it to be

Importantly though it's getting big traffic levels and sells stuff, a drill was listed privately yesterday and 3hrs later it was sold apparently ! Feedback from dealers has been good and they are also reporting good results

The ability to share ads socially on Facebook and Twitter to the very good groups like Farmers Free ads, Arablemen etc mean that the advert can go far beyond TFF and the Farm Classifieds site itself racking up 10's of thousands of views for individual listings in many cases already

I also think with the amount of scam sellers on other sites and eBay / facebook these days that using the collective power and knowledge of TFF users to police the fake ads and report them will be invaluable in the future making TFF Farm Classifieds a safe environment to buy and sell

The internet has long been in need of a single, easy to use, free for famers, cheap for dealers site where you can find pretty much everything thats for sale at any point in time, hopefully this will be it. I already think there is no better pace to sell farm kit online, nothing else gets close traffic wise

Lots more to come over the next few months, The new Classifieds is just the first phase in a comprehensive and long over due upgrade programs we have planned

It might be me but I like to sort the ads in order of nearest first. Such an option doesn't seem be available any more. Or am I doing something wrong?

if you scroll down the homepage to "recent adverts" that's what you will see

\\

If you click the orange "recent adverts" title you will go to a page that shows ads in order added

or you could just bookmark and go directly to https://www.classifieds.farm/listings/recent/

However I agree with you that this is less than clear so have added making a top menu shortcut to the top menu bar to the urgent development list that we will work through next week hopefully

Thanks for the feedback, really helps

sorry ! I read your post wrong (left my glasses at home !)

Location search can be done where ever you see this icon

upload_2018-11-27_14-34-30.png

Clicking it will show machine locations on a map like this
upload_2018-11-27_14-35-18.png

Or on the advanced search page you can search by location

upload_2018-11-27_14-37-18.png

However we do currently lack the function to filter search in order of "nearest me" but could certainly look at the possibility to do so if you feel it would be useful ?

I really like the 'nearest first' filter.
It lets me see the closest machines first.
If i refine the search to 'any item..nearest first' it also means I can see what the neighbours are selling!!
I'm sure nearest first was available on the old classifieds.

We will get it added ASAP, should be pretty simple to do

Thanks again for the feedback
