Farm sale.

After a fair shift in farming practises, we've a large amount of gear that is not getting used, or getting used that little that it is point less.

Looking to have a farm sale as a way of shifting it all relatively hassle free.
Has anyone on here had a genuine farm sale and how did you get on?

Thought about advertising it all individually but is it worth the aground?

I tried to advertise a combine and a sheep race on here, and both got deleted, so wasn't that success full. Probably my fault for doing it wrong, but even here would involve a lot of wasted time.

Haven't had a farm sale myself, but should have done when we downsized a decade ago. I'm still trying to flog stuff 10 years later. Advertising anywhere, including here, and people will cherry pick the best items, and leave you with the errrmmm.... errrrrrrr potato chitting trays. At a farm sale however people seem to go crazy and pay way over the odds for stuff. I've seen stuff go for more than new from a dealers yard.
Sales commission would be the only downside. That and having folks trampling your daffodils .....:ROFLMAO:

Edit... And the auctioneer will have the job of securing money from folks.
Edit # 2... You don't have to lower yourself to using ebay...

A dozen quality items will draw a good crowd provided the time of year is right (not busy), and the weather is reasonable ( not pishing down)
Farm sales seem to have died out completely in Pembrokeshire, 25 years ago there'd be 15-20 to go to in September. Presumably all the gear gets carted to the sale ground in Whitland (our answer to Cambridge sales:rolleyes:) That or Facebook...:poop:

My only concern is having enough to get a good crowd, the auctioneers assure me that they will have a lot of local farmers with outside entries to bulk it out, as we won't have the first 250 lots of broken pallets and bent gates, as there currently all being used to block gaps.
move the stuff to Wales for a sale, one thing i noticed about sales over the border is the lack of people there.

We held 2 "herd reduction sales" in 1993 and 1995 after letting the herd double due to poor prices during the early BSE crisis.

We had a good machinery clearout as part of the first one as well, about 150 lots.

Everything sold and some stuff made silly prices! Our series 111 Landrover SWB we'd had from new in 1972 made more than what we bought it for new

We had a few entered lots but the day was a huge success.

We had a clear out 12 months ago
With a dispersal
Same as you really was going to advertise things but realised there was a fair bit
It was a bit stressful getting everything sorted but things worked out grand really
Didn't have to put much back in sheds either
332 lots and a huge crowd

Buyers commission. What a bloody scandal that is and for that reason......... I'm out. It's not much wonder so much is traded on farmers free ads.
100 IAE 12 ft gates without fixings made more than you could get the complete gate delivered from mole valley. Crazy fools.

So I could sell all my old gates and buy new.

Took most of my stuff to the collective sale our local auctioneers hold every month, worked great for us as people tend to go silly at such events, might be a pain in the whatsit if you have hundreds of items though.
