Spotrised 303.
Is it still a 303?
Peep sites too.
Reminds me of mine.

What model is it you have there? I wouldn’t call mine light or easy but I think it’s an early one/ possibly a Long Lee and quite a bit heavier than some.

dunno, I’m assuming a MkIV, it’s an SMLE

this one doesn’t have any date or manufacturers stamps like some do

it has a serial number, a few other random stamps on action & barrel, & “Surrey” stamped on the barrel

I assume it is ex WWII or Korea vintage ?

there used to be an absolute shît load surplus 303s here, most cut down or “sporterised”

have you ever seen a MkV Jungle Carbine ? For jungle warfare in WW11, they had a lot of the wood cut off & & shorter barrel. I reckon one of them would make a great scrub gun - short, rugged, light & plenty of firepower

It looks like it's had a re-barrel at some stage?
My uncle put a match barrel on his, it shot superbly after that, but he went a bit far on the trigger to be safe.
Sadly he gave it to Police instead of letting it fall into my mitts, I could have made a damn good rifle out the two.
My .303 is good for 3 shots on a cold barrel and then it's all luck.... hardly any visible rifling left in the first ⅓ of the barrel

I have not shot mine in a while but. Used to be able to hit a coke can at 100 m with the peep sights.
I missed a deer clean broadside on at 150! With a scope.... then nailed it at full gallop with the next round. It's not worth rebarrelling because we aren't allowed the magazines (too many rounds) anymore. Meanwhile gun crime has gone up 47%

I’m sh!t at running shots. I shot at a Sambar last time I went hunting and missed. 100 m and I knew I missed after I fired. It was running fast though and there were a lot of trees.

When I was at school, the father of a friend of mine used to take part in the “Queens Shoots”, I think they were called ?
Anyway, long range shooting, with military ammunition, open sights & single shot rifle actions based on military rifles. Heavy match barrels. They tended to be either 303 or 308 ( 7.62 NATO ) back then.
Anyway, they shot out to 1000 yards with peep sights

.303 is actually quite a good calibre.

Some of the better-designed 150,160gr projectiles are streets ahead of the standard cordite 'solids' but with a decent barrel, they go pretty good....

I follow these guys

Wouldn't want to be rubbing me bum with an onion out there

150 gr softpoint doesn’t leave any doubt with a shoulder shot on a pig

Unlike the "wound them to death" effect of the old army stuff!

We shot a red stag umpteen times one afternoon and ended up walking up and pushing the bàstard over, in the end. Dead on his feet! Dad wondered what the hell I was shooting at.

They were designed for war, and it simply tied up more resources to 'not kill the enemy unless you had to'
I still have boxes of solid pointers, Dad used to file the point down and put a mini 'hollow point' in them with an automatic centrepunch.
