Can only speak for myself, I have had 4 SKS in the past. Great fun to shoot
l gave up my .45 rifle recently, hard to get the gunpowder, and caps. Wish l hadn't in some ways, that muzzle loader gave a good laugh to many, over the years. But it had also got to a stage, where it was getting a bit 'iffy' to use. Accuracy, that was good, as long as the target was huge, then you had to wait for the smoke to go, before you knew, if a hit or miss.

We’re trying to organise a helicopter shoot, amongst all the neighbours on the plain, from Breeza to Gunnedah, but in the meantime I’m getting a few from the tractor View attachment 1050967View attachment 1050968
Call that a pig?

That’s what we call a pig.

Just like no mention of England beating Australia in the rugby test a couple weeks ago 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
England beating Australia was to be expected. It’s been a long time since the 1990’s . . .

it was more in regards to the relative population sizes & medal count

You’d think a country with a much higher population would have more medals 🤷‍♂️

I would have also thought that the “host” country would have put in an extra effort for funding & training their athletes ?

as for the rugby test, as much as I love rugby, it is only a niche game here & only a minor football code - after rugby league, AFL & soccer, so you can’t expect much. The best talent & the BIG sponsorship goes to the two major codes - league & AFL

Haven't you been following the mess that is our current political system here? Couldn't organise a p1ss-up in a brewery!

Apart from soccer (which we seem crap at) sport just isn't a big thing here really apart from a majority watching it from their sofas while eating unhealthily..

you should come to any country town in Australia on a weekend
Sports events & kids sports dominate

with my council job, Parks & Gardens, the towns sporting fields are a major part of our work. These are multi use fields used by lots of different groups.

we are a town of about 10,000 people & total Shire population of about 12,000 ?
We have two main sporting fields, one which is cricket & rugby league, the other one is cricket & AFL. We have five other sports fields, plus the Showground that has a grass arena in the middle of it.
On these fields, we have Junior Rugby League, Junior & Senior Netball, summer & winter competitions of Touch Football & Oztag, along with Junior Cricket, Softball & use by schools & PTs. As well as people just wanting to kick a ball around.
Tennis is very popular.
The local rugby club own their own grounds & facilities & also have a strong Juniors club.
League, AFL & Rugby all have womens teams as well.
The local soccer club own their own grounds & have a VERY strong Juniors club.
Basketball have their own facilities.
The showground arena is regularly used for a range of equestrian sports, including Campdrafting, Rodeo. Dressage & Showjumping, as well as hosting regular Pony Club camps.
The Golf Course is very popular & there certainly isn’t any “elitism” about membership there.
Lawn bowls has a strong following.
We have a boxing gym & one of the girls there is apparently now the world champion in her class ?
There is a Jockey Club & racecourse with regular meetings, as well as Greyhounds who also own their own track.
We have a flat track motorcycle club, who this weekend hosted the NSW finals, attracting riders of all ages from all over the State.
The local swimming pool - owned by Council - recently went through a $12million overhaul & is home to a strong swimming club. Just about every morning there are kids training before school.
Besides the boxing gym, there are at least 3 other fitness gyms in town.
There is a local archery club, pistol club, big bore rifle club & a clay target club.
There is an aero club, gliding & sailing clubs, as well as fishing clubs
There is a triathlon club.

that’s just a short list off the top of my head.
In a town of about 10,000

personally, I don’t really follow any National or commercial sport & rarely watch any televised sports, but I do think community involvement in grass roots sports is great for people & communities in general

so sport, of some kind or another, does feature rather largely & is a major social activity for a lot of people here

Considering probably 90% of the occupants of our village are pensioners the only sporting facility we need is a flat bit of tarmac for Zimmer frame racing.👨‍🦳👵

Need a cull!

Not even any yummy mummy’s to perv over when tractoring!:(
When we had a farm up there in the hills I used to love going through Ruthin as there were so many pretty girls about.
Sounds like they all got old like me and moved out to your village. :D

Ruthin…..that’s @hendrebc kerb crawling country.
Was a really good place for a night out years ago. Pubs all packed by 7pm queuing to get in and would be like that till us young ones started going down to that dive of a club on the industrial estate about 10pm. Pubs would still be heaving though.
Been quite sh!t since the club closed though must he over 10 years ago now. the pubs would be pretty dead on a weekend now
Think it was mostly moaning from people who lived on the street running from top of town to the club that got the place shut down. Same happened to the star as well people in houses round the back moaning got it shut down with noise. Quite a few of the pubs there have closed now. Wetherspoons probably hasn't done the place any good either :(

@hendrebc ,you will know that Roy and (forget her name) now run the Leyland Arms, briefly they ran The Picture House restaurant in town but I think they got in bother financially.

Lovely couple and family, excellent landlords. (y)
I didn't know they were the same people. When the picture house was first open I was stood at the bar waiting and had been for a while because it was quite busy. Started talking to some woman who I assumed was waiting for the bar as well and commented that the bar staff were very slow.... turned out it was the owner of the place she didn't look very happy and went to serve me herself. The place didn't stay busy for very long though hopefully they have better luck with the Leyland. It's been a good pub for a long time so they would have to do something wrong to f**k it up I suppose 😂
