We claimed back a nice lump sum recently for historic overdraft and business loans. Done directly through the bank. Very straight forward, would recommend anyone everyone do it. Banks have put aside billions to pay back the money they took from you!
Which bank?
What were they charging for on your overdraft?
Come to think of it, the bank should be contacting the customer to confess.

How many years back did you go?

We bought land in the early 90s and the bank insisted on me having life assurance to cover the loan in the event of my death .
Is this technically PPI or not

I think it is and I'm in a very similar situation. However I don't regret the life insurance, I'm still paying into it now and hopefully it will be a nice payout for my family after my death. Nevertheless the bank did insist on it at the time.....

Mine was with HSBC. Might contact them next week, although all the managers I've ever dealt with have retired now.

Your very right they should have been forced to notify all customers of the money owing to them!
Lloyds bank but I'm unsure how much they were charging us.
Took about 6 weeks between first application to payment.

I have had various loans, mortgages and credit cards and have always been pretty careful to not knowingly pay any extras such as PPI. Should I look into a PPI reclaim and how is best to go about it?

Absolutely worth trying, it won't cost you anything. Simply go onto your borrowers website and download they're ppi claimback form quoting your account details. There's also a template covering letter on money savings expert to send with it.

Me too,HSBC sold me the life insurance but did not indicate that you could source it elsewhere,(at approx 1/2 the price).

I'm in the same position as several others, in that I have never knowingly taken any ppi on any loan, overdraft or credit card. All life assurance has been separate from the bank.
I can't imagine that I have a claim, unless there has been some hidden charge on some service or another.

Do the banks pay out more than people have actually paid in the first place for PPI? I don't understand how some people are getting paid thousands of Pounds with these claims, and considering that I have not knowingly paid anything in for this 'service'.

Compensation is based on the premiums originally paid, plus interest from the lapse date until now at 8%, that's why the interest sometimes exceed the capital sum of PPi payments originally paid

Ok so let's say someone had been sold a life insurance policy with their mortgage and they're eligible to claim for PPI. If a successful claim can be made what happens to the life insurance afterwards?

What about people that have died? Can thier executors reclaim any potential ppi? Do you have to know which organisations might have charged ppi?

We need a ppi expert on here

Absolutely, we haven't done it ourselves, but we know it is possible if the person was miss sold it.

We were unsure, so just applied and hoped for the best. We received out payment but never any literature regards the breakdown of how they totalled our Re payment
