Farmers earn more from YouTube than their crops

I'm pretty sure it's the rubbish he spouts that everyone's commenting on. Like constantly stating he wants to do all this contract work, yet hires people in to do everything he says he is going to do.

His last video left quite a few unanswered questions though. If his parents dont do much on the farm, and he doesn't "draw a wage". WHO does do all the work? Cos it does not appear to be him...Only thing he ever seems to do is move a few bales and muck out a bit?
Other thing is, social media "careers" seem rather brief in the grand scheme of things. What will he do when the money dries up?

A lot I think depends on who you are targeting as an audience and what your goals are for numbers be it views or subscribers as to how long you last as I believe OLF has been going for over a decade on YouTube with How Farms Work not far behind. The biggest issue seems to be more losing interest or drive in taking the time to stop and film things especially when you are busy especially if you have to do so multiple times.

On another note OLF did seem to take the loss of his dad's old loader tractor better than I would have where it became crispy.

Social media career might be relatively short lived but I have known quite successful farmers take an off farm or even on farm enterprise and make it work whilst the market/demand/opportunity is there and then move on. If the sum total of what Olly is doing makes the books balance then no problem. If it does not then it will be his/family problem.

Olf seems to have lost a lot of the income he was once earning on YouTube. Whether it be Google like he claims, or just loss of subscribers and views? I think it all depends on what you set out to achieve.
For me, it's a history of our farm for my yet born grand kids or great grand kids to look back on. As a friend said. "If a picture tells a thousand words , then a video is a book"

I look at some dairy boys in america/canada and one thing that catches my eye is that overalls are just not a thing. Some just walk around in shorts but through some black magic I never see shiit sprinkled folks, how?

I think a lot depends where and what jobs they are doing.

It’s the weather, it does not lend itself to them here. It’s just not the culture either. Just good to wear during winter. Not sure what the difference is between being covered in sh!t or not but I guess the manure handling method would be a difference. We flush with water and it leaves it close to spotless most the time.

I didn’t confuse the two, there a tad different and would be very hard to mix them up .
I did correct myself and post that young Olly get a fair bit more views than the other Olly who makes @ £2500 a month from his videos but he does one a day I believe.
Ive not watched much of Ollys farm ( young lad ) he’s not that stupid to get the followers etc on YouTube which from he’ll be making a few quid from thank you very much.
He's (Olly's Farm) got the followers because he's targeting the younger generation, that was obvious when he made a video of himself playing Farm Simualtor.
My nephew, unfortunately, enjoys his videos, but I find him to be an insufferable stroker. All he talks about in videos is buying this, that and the next thing, which the younger lads like to hear, but in reality it's absolute nonsense he's talking! Example - harrowing with a 3meter Pottinger harrow, but because it's struggling he spends the video talking about needing a bigger, higher HP machine, replacing the 6R for a 7530... etc. When in reality it was only a standard traction issue he had, and with a bit of air out the tyres, and some weight on the front would make all the diffrence.

As irritating as he is to the older generation, the kids obviously think the whole " I'll buy this, then I'll buy that " approach is obviously cool and why he attracts so many views.

He doesn’t really bother me one bit as I choose not to watch his videos. Why it bothers others who continue to watch him is bewildering . Fair play to the lad he’s making a few quid out of You Tube I say good luck and crack on .
