Horses for courses. I've used fenn traps and poison on rats both work ok. Rats are easier to trap than moles but crafty beggers all the same. Caught 40 or so one year. Poison is easier to administer obviously but it costs a fortune nowerdays. I think we paid £90 for the last big tub of bait and I swear one or two became immune to it so had to trap them (they left lots of blue poo in our corn loft:() and I think soon you wont be able to buy any without going on a silly course.
This year we are looking to buy youngstock nuts in tote bags rather than individual bags and keep it in rat proof containers and clearing out the junk from that room where they like to hide so hopefully keep their numbers down this winter

Traps for moles
Traps for mice
Air gun for squirrels
Cat for rats or
traps for rats
or if above fail
poison for rats
Cat does not 'do mice' for some reason but he is excellent on voles, weasels and above ground moles

Don't like poison because my dog likes ratting, the cats have a few too although it's a big ask for a cat to tackle a full grown rat, but they can manage the young ones, anyway, there's more meat on a rabbit for the cats.
