Farming going down with hardly a whimper...

Do you really think your MP is going to watch some random youtube video sent to him by a constituent? I know I would take far more notice of a well crafted letter than have to pick through a fringe commentator's ramblings.
Maybe some will actually look at it. What part of it do you vehemently disagree with, if any? Assuming that you have actually watched it of course, which certainly isn't a safe assumption for my part.

I don't watch youtube videos of that sort as I find them very intrusive - most of my TFF time involves me being in company or whilst watching TV/ in silence. I'd imagine that an MP would be fairly busy too and possibly catches up on at least some of his correspondence whilst travelling/ in bed at night, so wouldn't appreciate something that disturbs those around him/her.

We're all different. Perhaps certain MP's will watch such a video? Neither you nor I can know this and I would certainly back it up with a nice letter.
You may be curious to know whether I have been in touch with my MP. Well no, not quite, but I have a close mutual contact that expresses my views on this subject to him.

You really should watch the video though. It is almost certainly of interest to you. I believe it is meant to be intrusive and make you think and coveys more information and explores more avenues than is possible in a letter or in forum posts.

As it happens I also sent a text saying watch it when you can because while I don't agree to all of it there are some very interesting points . I have already had a text back saying "will do " !

I happen to be rather good at it. That doesn't mean I'm committed to stay in it though. I'll reluctantly let the population eat cake if it comes to it. What I am very angry about is the needless destruction of UK animal agriculture for some spurious political and ideological ideals that benefit no one except our competitors.

Other industries fight hard for their livelihoods. It seems that when reality is pointed out to farmers, as it was to fishermen, many choose to ignore it and attack the messenger rather than the perpetrators of the policies.
I was just likening the reason you are farming to why the other man is an A-hole.

Anyway, from what I'm told he has issues closer to home.

Silage is going to be a month late for me this year, purely due to the weather. Hopefully it will greatly reduce milk production and keep the milk price high over Winter. The extra price, if we get any, will all go in increased concentrate use and reduced milk yield anyway I suppose.

We've made some excellent silage both in April & May ....... and planted 400ac of maize.

Weirdly I was very pleased to be delayed with taking the last 130ac of 1st cut until yesterday as we pretty much filled a 1200t clamp from it so for once, my glass is half full

Won't last though. 'kin cold & wet today and back in winter clothing

There were only a few suitable days at the beginning of May down here and the contractor did part of one farm before the rain. They did another couple of fields yesterday.
Frankly, most of my place will need nearly a week to dry the ground out to prevent damage before it is suitable for big machinery, so I'm glad that there are two farms ahead of me in the queue. It takes the pressure off.
I'm not at all worried about being nearly a month later than I'd planned. There is absolutely nothing that I can do about the weather. As long as we can start mowing in the next seven to ten days in good conditions I'll be satisfied. Not happy, but satisfied.

The biggest thing that will do for British farming is British farmers. The industry just doesn’t seem to be able to pull together. The fact that no matter where you go on this forum several of you are at each other’s throats is a case in point. We all need to grow up and accept different points of view and have the good manners to be polite, at least on here if you don’t like someone’s point of view you can switch off or block them. By the look of what I read on here if anyone is aiming to weaken the industry they are succeeding, the division is frightening! I am very glad I moved when I did but I would hate to see the industry that I love collapse in the country in which I grew up just because there are too many egos. Pull together!

two things to have any power, numbers and being united, neither of which UK farmers have got ?
We actually have plenty of power. It's the last one that is missing.
All we have to do is not send food to market for a while. Or even cut down to half for a few weeks. It won't happen of course because every other farmer knows best and will sh!t on the others for their own benefit as soon as look at them.

There is no will to do so. Too many 'I'm alright Jack's' that couldn't give a stuff about anyone else.

As a farmer or farmers I'm sure we are all capable of getting other jobs should the job go totally south BUT the level of short sightedness in this is staggering and dont get me started on trading with other countries so we can have a clear conscience that we didn't produce the carbon or emissions or waste that we all knows comes with production of everything. the whole think makes me sick, there are some people running the show who just want a clear conscience and be able to say that they ticked the right boxes and now the uk is at net zero carbon and get a pat on the back and a bigger house and oh by the way the only thing we will produce in time is doll wallers and ... well im struggling to actually think of anything els is great numbers. someone in parliament needs to grow a pair of balls and stop jumping on every bandwagon for votes fame and fortune.

I know there are elements who despise Europe on here and that is fine, we are all entitled to our opinions. However British farming could learn a lot from French farmers amongst others. There is no way that France would be functioning today if this trade deal was happening here. The country would be gridlocked, what’s more the majority of the public would be behind them. There is still a connection here to farming and food production and great pride in local produce. If you don’t get together and do something physical like reduce supply it won’t get better. Your government and population need reminding who feeds them!
