Farming in France

Merci beaucoup Monsieur Hobo!
Seems to me that the price of land are quite attractive. But then again land in the UK actually seems to be better value than here in Sweden for example.

I speak pretty good French (especially after a glass or two of Merlot) but I know I still wouldnt be able to get all the subtleties and nuances that we take for granted here when dealing everyday with those around us, so how does it work for you that have made the move ? Were you fluent before you went ? Married to a native speaker ?

It's great that many have made the move successfully but I can quite see why so many move and then come back !
i and my husband know the word bonjour , and did not know the word au revoir the day we moved to france , and 90% of the time it is like liven in ireland as when you are on your own you don't need french to work wait cows

we are here 12 years 8th march 2001 , and are the only paddys around , there is a bigger fight for land here
than in your part of the country as any land that comes up here there is about 20 others trying to get in for it , being the first and only ex-pats here has not being easy

There are a few Irish around here, but sometimes need a translator.

Elmsted I have a question for you , before we made the move to France we looked at other countrys
like Canada and oz , we taught about Romanian and Poland at that time as it was the time a lot of people
where going out there , we wear told that in the night the locals would come and help them selves to all you have got and we taught that it would not be much good being rich in a poor country
Romania is one of the poorest places in the world , what is it like to live there

The French have never forgiven us for sinking there fleet at Oran but we had no choice
Ouch!

Whenever Julie or I have enquired politely in the Loire valley about the War years, it seems easier to get a description of what happened in the First War, but no one wants to talk about the second one. At least, not to us. Our French teacher, originally from the Auvergne, remembers lots of Resistance activity and plenty of horrible stories of those caught by the Milice or the Gestapo.

Maybe it's all best forgotten, as the Axis powers (including Romania, until they saw the light...) are now our friends?

[Walterp re-reads his post carefully, and mumbles to himself: "Is the question mark in the right place, there?"]

we find the same thing but we live in bretagne and the people her had the same idea as the irish , they taught the germans would give them there state back , and knowing some people from around here it is easy to see how France sent more french Jews to camps than the Germans did
