A bit of a light hearted thread, i would like people to say what feature films they like and why, with some agricultural content, to start the ball rolling, a film i saw on the tv a few years ago, its got sissy spasak and mel gibson in it, i think its called the river, about a small struggling farmer. Any others good and bad, i also seem to remember a british tv series drama in the eighties about a farm in the west country, what was the name of that?

If we are including tv series, the James Herriot ones with Christopher Timothy from the '70s and '80s were lovely viewing.

I bet many of the editions were never digitally archived but some of the old (proper) farming TV programmes that were centred on production and reporting across the globe : John Cherington and Oliver Walston being my favorites, also Philip Wrixon. David Richardson not so much

I get a narrowed stare when I watch period dramas. I'm supposed to be admiring the acting or listening to the story and I'm scanning the horizons for tramlines or whatever. I also get called "RainMan" when they show a car journey close up and I task myself with guessing the vehicle from the window frame or seat back rest; the ultimate being when I cry foul that the vehicle soundtrack doesn't marry with the vehicle shown

Yes far from the madding crowd with julie christie and alan bates and dont for get terence stamp, why oh why do they have to make remakes of good films like flight of the phoenix , far from the madding crowd, also the film wirh steve mc queen, the get away, and ruin them? speaking of steve mcqueen , his film junior bonner is in my opinion under rated and maybe classed agricultural related?

The Wicker Man, with its plot centred around an island and its pagan fertility rituals. You have to put up with Britt Ekland dancing naked, but apart from that it's a cracking film.
