Been offerd cabbage at £25 for 3/4 ton. Per box. How good is it for in-lamb ewes 3 weeks from lambing and for cattle through a tub with silage?

Cabbage is hell of a feed , used to grow a lot of cow cabbage also , sheep go crazy for it

Great feed, have fed it to in-lamb ewes in previous years, sounds a bit expensive though. They will not keep long with these temperatures.!

Great feed, but it decomposes really fast and it will be stinking in no time. You'll need to keep it really fresh for it to be safe for in-lamb ewes.

Very good feed the pedigree men feed it to rams.

Yes your right same when you buy a new bull thats been stuffed with meal.
That's why I stopped buying at sales Prefer to go to a farm and see how the breeder is feeding them

Thanks for all the replies, think I am going to leave it though. By the time I get it in its nearly 40 quid a ton. Plus don't really want to change ewe diet so close to lambing and worried that I need to use a lot more bedding for ewes inside if the dung runs out them.

Could cabbages be grown and used for winter grazing like swedes?

We used to plant 3 rows of swede and one of cow cabbage , it's a lovely sight to see half a dozen fat lambs around a big cow cabbage

I can only think the OP has been offered horticultural type cabbages Savoy etcetera as there does seem to be a glut this year but you've got me on the 'Cow Cabbage'.

May try a corner of the field with some and see how they last a winter up here. Grew 1 row of kale with 3 rows of swede this last year and the ewes dive in for the kale when i make a new break. Thinking there would be more bulk with cabbage.
