Feeding Oats

I have been offered some oats to feed, At £100 per tonne they don’t seem very expensive and I’m assured they are a good sample.
Looking to use them to stretch out barley mix for store cattle, or to add to lamb pellets to help fatten lambs.
Are any of you feeding oats and what are the issues.
Thanks MGH

We've been feeding them for a few thousand years, so they should be ok.

And feed them whole to all stock.

But if they are non- farm assured, don't let them know, or they'll refuse to eat them.
I’d realise they can be fed whole to sheep but assumed they would need to be rolled for cattle, would they not be better rolled with the barley ???

Feed whole ..... don't let paperwork be seen if your FABBL etc (they won't know !) .... and crack on . Sounds a great buy ..... Happy days ...... Wish I could have get some at that price !!

Seem to remember that calves , up to about 7 months , digest 'whole' well . Then declines ongoing . Be worth trying on any older cattle , and have a dig in sh1t to check if losses are ott ............

Iv got some spring oats to go in hopefully, I'd like to feed them to my bulls will they substitute some of the barley and will I need to up the protein that's added to the ration? I have fed them to calves before and they've done well. Just wondering about bigger bulls

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
