Looking at a second hand 2012 724. What problems am I likely to encounter running it to 7500 hrs ?

our oldest 724 has done close to that and up until now has been pretty much issue free

It's being serviced and just getting new rear brakes and a couple of minor leaks sorting, we thought there was a turbo oil seal issue which has turned out to be something else minor (filter) it seems

It had new tyres at 5000hrs - other than that notihng much to be concerned about TBH I think we did do the Cardon brake on it at circa 5000hrs

Buy one with a PROPER service history not just from someone that says they have ! I think the difference between one that has been looked after properly and one that hasn't could be expensive in older age !

Are the engines ok on these tractors? we run a 936 and people keep telling me the engines on these can have issues.

We’ve some gone away with over 10000 hrs on pretty much trouble free, currently have 4 700s that have between 8-11k hrs on. No major problems one had a new diff, few Electrical issues but that’s about it iirc

Part of the problem is people are quick to complain (and post on social media) if there’s a problem. Saying a tractor has been good had a few problems but nothing serious doesn’t get likes.

Every make has issues and I have had my fair share, but all in all I think the Fendts I have had have been Very good. I also run a JD and over the years on the accounts Jd have been more expensive to run.

Anyway I like driving Fendt, I worked out the other day I must be getting near 20000 hours driving them. The JD is perfect for its job and I will stick to having one of them around, and my brother prefers driving it.

Plenty of life left then :) Check the service history, there may well be some warrenty left. What is the spec? the days of all fendts being fully loaded are long gone, its not as bad as buying a JD but there can be quite a variation.

There,s probably 20k dif or even more between say a power model to one that has all the extras, guidance, top seat, electric mirrors, climate control, chrome pipe the list is endless. If you buy a 2nd hand one with all the toys on it, it might not work out to bad, but there are a lot about that come off big estates/farms and been driven hard.

I like an extra spool to whatever you need then that can be dedicated to the hitch. The spools with the external detach lever are more reliable. Evolution seat is quite an expensive upgrade but nice and comfy.

GPS can be a minefield. If you want to use the Fendt system check what is in the roof. Bear in mind Agco now own Trimble, so if the tractor has a Topcon receiver (quite likely on a 2012) it won’t be getting much in the way of updates, I had hassle with an old tractor because of this. If you need a new receiver Novatel will work no problem and cheaper than Trimble, it’s what I have.

Sorry if you know all this

Being smart but what do you mean by proper service history? It seems the dealer mechanics didn't change the engine breather filter as part of the recommended services. And only for it being mentioned on here you would be 3 grand down and problem not fixed.

Errr, are you sure about that?

AGCO and Trimble are both publicly listed companies, but Trimble is more than twice the size of AGCO in terms of market capitalisation, with agriculture being a minor part of their product offering.

To put it in perspective, AGCO are closer in market size to Greggs the bakers (of sausage roll and steak bake fame) than they are to Trimble.
