Fendt transmission rebuild cost 25k

Assuming the engine needed an overhaul and the vario needed service exchange, what else could go wrong in the next 5000 hours? 4wd clutch and PTO clutch, plus hydraulic pump. How much for this little lot?
Plenty could go wrong over that time (although I’m sure the same could be said of any brand with those hours).
That said, the fact that it was a one owner dealer serviced machine before we bought it should lessen that risk. The tractor looks well minded although it was relatively busy to clock 8.4K hours since 2013.
We bought it as a “second tractor “ and will just be for ploughing and a few odd jobs. Expected usage will be 200-250hrs/year.
It will keep the hrs down on our other tractor (2200hr 516) and they will serve as back up to each other.
We priced trading the 516 for a 200hp Deere or Fendt, the used 724 was cheaper and came with an immaculate Fendt loader. So we spent less upfront and now have two tractors.
The 724 is one of the ones from before they started using EGR and apparently these are one of the best of them.
Considering the price of the tractor, I wouldn’t lose any sleep spending 10-15k on a vario etc. However, if it were to become unreliable then I would quickly become annoyed.

Lots of things to go wrong, many of them small but they can be time consuming and expensive. You really need to be fairly handy with the spanners if you want to keep gear with high hours especially if you're adding a lot of hours yourself.
Same with cars, trucks and pickups really.
That's not to say it won't pay, you just need a different mindset to running new stuff.

I think when its all said and done if your wantin to keep plenty of years and hours the simpler the machine the better, but its getting harder to find used tractors with over 150hp that is simple

But how simple? Need a four speed power quad, dynashift type gearbox as a minimum.. then an oil immersed perma type clutch. Bosch electronic rear linkage control...air con...?

This is the argument I hear the most but doesn’t stack up as the most basic requirements of anyone or any farm the technology within said machine is now 30 years old.

Yes, it's like having a 30 year old tractor and then thinking you will borrow your neighbour's fusion 2 for an afternoon, only to discover you don't have isobus/power beyond or a ball and spoon hitch or whatever.

I believe JCB HQ notice that a lot of Fastracs were showing up in one area on the JCB tracker. JCB sent a man out to have a look. He found that they were all in Swinnerton yard waiting for gearbox repair.
Good to know. Any1 have any experience of how much a tranny repair at swinnertons would cost

People seem to make out that it's not a massive job to actually swap the Fendt transmission, almost like a cartridge. Is it less labour than traditional build tractors,or is it still major surgery ?

There was a Profi article years ago where 2 fitters did it in a night, if I remember correctly the tractor had been on silage and had issues so it was parked up after shift and ready to go again the next morning.

Remember readin that, it was pulling a dump trailer iirc. But 2 dealer mechanics for a full shift now would be costing in the region of 2 grand. Id say u could do it yourself but ud need a workshop manual to hand as theres certain places that need measured for reassembly to make sure shes running true

It was normal conduct back in the days of the JD 6020 series to rip the autopowr out in the evening (they pretty much all failed once and some twice). There was a reason for it but I forgot.
