Always had problems with mvf unfortunately. Changed supplier this time, prompt delivery of Yara product, about 15 tonnes, although still awaiting an odd 3 tonnes (still Yara) supposed to be coming on another lorry, and that was almost 3 weeks ago...:scratchhead:
We use Yara. Their delivery is usually ok but there can be a bit of a wait at busy times. Full loads are fine but it would appear that part loads are held until there’s something else coming into the area to make a load up.

The CAN I was offered was 25% nitrogen which looked dear to me in comparison depending on how much you value the lime
That was the same way I was calculating it. We have had land tested and limed it too.
It is expensive but get good silage yields from it. Seems to perform better thsn nitram here - we're high rainfall on acid soils.
I was watching a Yara web cast earlier in the week and even they said that CAN & 34.5 was the same thing and performed exactly the same?

This is very much correct. CAN is an inefficient way of applying calcium - far cheaper ways of doing that like lime, gypsum, Fibrophos, Kalfos etc depending on what you're trying to achieve. I understand that CAN is the only AN product available in Ireland

Calcium is useful in high Mg soils and if you don’t want the wrong people making bombs out of AN
I’ve had a fair bit soil tested and altered fert and lime as agronomist advised. Calcium lime was the preferred prescription as mag was too high. Seemed a dear way to buy lime the CAN I mean.

Asked the old man tonight and although more expensive per unit he thought CAN was considered the best for N uptake efficiency in plants. Also thought it improved the efficiency with which other nutrients are absorbed into soil. Over 50 yrs since he was in ag.college tho!
