I think this is getting factored in to current prices, what we need to be thinking of, is what if Russia and Ukraine kiss and make up and there is a massive world harvest?short term wheat, looks plentiful, and prices have eased, traders are thinking going forward, wheat will not be short.
They don't seem to realise the political uncertainty, or the affect of fert price, if Putin kicks off, wheat from Russia and Ukraine, is not going to appear, that will have a rather large effect on wheat price, perhaps not the season to sell much forward ?.
Is there tariffs on imported US urea ?NOLA (New Orleans) Urea values (USD/short ton) taking a big dump lately. +/- $800 FOB in December and now down to $480
There are major differences between the US and UK markets, not just that they don't understand the metric system!
They do have domestic production utilising VERY cheap gas.
Nearer to home, Egypt has followed the trend; $950 FOB in December down to mid-$600's FOB for Feb shipment. Bear in mind that it would take 4-6 weeks from committing to a fresh purchase and seeing it delivered onto farm. That assumes a distributor / merchant has the capacity to do so; many have existing commitments to work through.
What next?
India has very low inventory and they'll likely be back into back-to-back tenders from March onwards.
China may continue its policy to feed themselves first and prevent exports.
Brazil will be hungry for tonnes from April. Depending upon the serious drought conditions in the main growing areas of the south.
Major crop prices will dictate what is affordable.
With regional gas prices at relatively high levels, compared to June last year, it's difficult to see how Nitrate producers could compete on a unit for unit basis.
Not even mentioned Mr Putin...
Hope the info helps.
Nigh on 200 was available not long ago, why didnt you do some at that?Long time for prices to drift downward, the concern is paying 600 for fert then getting 150 for wheat at harvest, quite likely now the recent rises are short term supply issues and russia, huge crops from ukraine and russia will ruin the fun

£200 nowhere near enough with £650 fertNigh on 200 was available not long ago, why didnt you do some at that?
I would have thought today was a bit of profit taking. US downgraded some winter crop ratings yesterday, Ukraine still a mess and supply still quite tightshort term wheat, looks plentiful, and prices have eased, traders are thinking going forward, wheat will not be short.

I would take £200 if i knew I was going to get 4t per acre. My fag packet calculations would have my fert cost at £156/acre (This year £100) Giving a potential £644 to pay other bills and a little bit for me.£200 nowhere near enough with £650 fert
