What would the horsepower requirement of a mounted fertiliser spreader be?? Looking to run off a donkey engine but unsure of power requirement

Can’t get a constant spreader speed and a variable forward speed running off a buggy platform using a hydraulic pump and motor off the engine crank, thought is to run spreader off a donkey engine giving a constant disc speed while having a variable forward speed using buggy

Think it depends on spreader, rate, width and top forward speed...

If it's a 36m twin disc, at 500 kg/ha. You're going to need a bit of poke.....

Incidentally, there was a SP spreader contraption on eBay a while back with a donkey engine/spreader mounted on a willmot chassis... Ill split it with you ... I want the willmot !! ;)

We used to run a 3t mounted Kuhn on a 125hp tractor. Big weight block on the front and it was a great outfit. Very low weight (8.4t fully loaded) for the output it could achieve.
