Field required for a party

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a field to hire for an annual party that my friend Mark and I put on for our close friends and their families - hoping I might find some options here as everything I find online seems to be geared up for weddings (and priced accordingly)... Its my turn to find venue this year and Mark has always found good places on forums before.

Basically we realised several years ago that, as we'd run out of weddings to go to and that we never had an opportunity to see all our friends in the same place together so, rather than waiting for the funerals to come around, we started a tradition of getting together once a year in the summer and camping out together for a weekend. Usually 40 of us and young children of varying ages. We bring our own little party tent to house a small PA for music and bad dad-dancing, and hire in a portaloo each for ladies and gents. We also usually hire about 20 straw bales from the farmer and bring two fire pits, to keep fire off the ground, which we use as a night time hang out focal point.

We are a respectful and tidy lot, and always the leave the field completely clean, save some squashed grass. All we really require is access to get the toilets delivered/picked up and the land to be well drained enough to drive into if its been raining... no boggy fields please )

We all chip in for the cost of the weekend, and don't make a profit out of it, so our budget for the field hire is usually in the region of £600 - £700.

We live in Devon, Mark lives in East Sussex and the rest of our friends are pretty much scattered between, so the location doesn't have to be too specific as some people are always going to have to travel a long way wherever we end up, so I'm hoping this will make it easy.

Can anyone help??

My number is 07905 302266 and email is [email protected] if you think its something you'd like to discuss.

thanks

I'm the wrong way too unfortunately, but good luck.

If you fancy Kent / East Suusex border and are genuine then get in touch. The money will go to charity.

I can do this, but you’ll need to come to Suffolk.

Every field in the country is boggy at present!! When in the year are you planning your event? We are in Mid Shropshire close to Wenlock Edge. I have a site that would be probably be suitable in August and September... I might have to think a bit more creatively outside those months...

I also have friends who run this this shepherds hut loo hire...

Hi there, I know... ours is like a quagmire - has been for about 4 months! Anyway, thanks very much for getting back to me on this.. the toilets look lovely, but unfortunately you're a bit too far away from us both.. we usually have a heavily loaded camper van each to lug the equipment around (not to mention a bit of a hangover on the Sunday drive home) so we're kind of hoping to get somewhere a bit closer. However if we don't have any luck soon then I'll get in touch if I can persuade the Hastings contingent to ease on the distance restriction. Thanks so much for replying though - much appreciated!! Rich :)

Yep it no fun having a long drive after a big night! If you don't have luck on here another great option would be facebook... There is a Shropshire Farmers facebook group, I expect there will be similar ones for every county if you do a quick search... A similar post on one of those groups is sure to get you some responses, particularly as your facebook profile is a great starting reference. There are probably plenty of farmers on here reluctant to put their hand up for fear that you might not be genuine. There is always the risk that someone arranging a site for "a family gathering" is really cover for an invasion from the travelling community or ravers! :woot:

Ah, yes.. I see what you mean... we're definitely not travellers, although some of us used to be ravers ...about 30 years ago! but I don't think that counts! ha ha.

good idea on the Facebook groups thing - thanks for the tip!

As a note to the above, we've had some kind offers from guys out of the 'reasonable journey zone' so to be clearer we're probably looking for something no further West than Axminster and no further East than Hastings.. perhaps no further north than Aylesbury(ish)... otherwise either Mark or I will be driving to far to make it fair on us... seeing as we do all the work to organise it every year :)

If the lockdown ever eases, we might be able to host, used to run festivals in west wiltshire

Sorry I missed this, and thanks for replying... unfortunately, due to the current situation, we've decided to just not do it this year (sniff sniff), but will be planning for next year's get together instead... even though its only a small group it does take Mark and I quite a bit of effort to organise, so much easier if we have a long run-up, and we cannot second guess the situation for this year, sad though it is.. Zoom isn't really the same!

So, can you let me know a bit more about the space you have please? Do you have a grid ref, and any pics maybe? My email is [email protected]... phone no 07905 302266.

cheers
Rich
