The ADAS Soils, Crops and Water team is looking for a small number of Field Research Scientists from an agricultural background to work on exciting scientific Crop Pathology and Physiology projects.
We have vacancies in the team for both Field Research Scientists and farm machinery operational Field Research Scientists. These roles will be based from the Rosemaund office in Herefordshire on a permanent, full-time basis.
Due to the seasonal nature of the work, a flexible approach is needed as there will be a requirement to work overtime, and although field-based, you will also be required to do some laboratory and office-based working.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver practical research for a range of agricultural crops
- Lead implementation of on-site field/glasshouse/polytunnel/laboratory work and liaise with clients and colleagues to ensure on-time delivery
- Manage projects ensuring key objectives and deadlines, are met, ensuring high levels of scientific credibility and client satisfaction are achieved
- Handle collection, aggregation, and routine analysis of data
- Assess levels of pest and disease, and crop condition
- Assist with experimental work outside of the immediate team as required
- Farm Machinery Operation: Operation of plot trials equipment and larger agricultural machinery
- A full driving licence is essential as well as the flexibility to travel within the UK
- Capability or potential to manage glasshouse, polytunnel, offsite field experiments, alongside laboratory and office delivery at ADAS sites and at numerous commercial growers predominantly in Herefordshire, but also throughout the UK, dependent on business need
- Possess an interest in Agriculture and/or Scientific research
- Ideally educated to A-level or higher in a relevant subject area
- Ability and willingness to work overtime (evenings and weekends) during busy periods
- Working knowledge of machinery and good operational skills required
- PA1, PA2, PA4 & PA6 are desirable, but training can be provided for the right candidate
- £18,000 - £22,000 depending on experience and technical knowledge
