Aye. Hutches until nearly weaned. Usually throw them into half dozens and drop a bucket of milk into their trough once a day to wean them off, because it's a pain carrying so much meal to them individually at that stage.

I had a price from Viking and didn’t get past the £35 a straw starting price

sexed fleckvieh?
They have a lot of sexed semen, and also some fleckvieh, but none sexed fleckvieh for sale today in Denmark.
And i can't find any semen near that price, if i buy it here.

Coloured tags are so,easy to see which are ours at the heifer farm, different colour for different year.them and bvd tag get cut out once calved then double tagged we don’t brand anything, fleks are haribo,Viking’s are Hjustica and hattrick, using fabu and borat on this years hfrs and some cows the harobo straws were around £28 a straw not sexed when I was using them 2years ago bloody expensive. The Viking straws arnt that expensive @Headless chicken I want to get some hobo straws next

Why would you use a bull like borat now?
I just saw his proof page, and i would never use him. I have some animals after him, but didn't use him for a long time. Many better ones today, almost no matter what you're looking for. I've used a lot of hjustica last year and some fabu this year.
(I have scandinavian red cows and breeding interests me)

To keep on topic, i like these fleckviehs, and i am sometimes playing with the idea of crossing in a 3-way-and-then-meat system, like procross, at least with some of my cows, but i think we had the monty's i need in my lifetime (and they were all only 50% monty), so fleckvieh could be the ticket. Deffinitely without jersey, as i need a uniform size in my system.

I’m delighted with my first crosses HFxFlk. Doing the litres but keeping in good condition too and fertility seems good so far. I’ve got pure Holstein and pure Fleckvieh and as far as commercial milking cattle go the crosses are ticking the boxes for me.
Just as well as there’s nearly 100 or more in the pipeline for the next few years.
Difficult bit is deciding where to go next but I’ve made up my mind.
Ordered sexed Haribo fleckvieh and sexed Holstein Mixer and Eubank from Genus.
Just look at each cow/heifer and decide if she needs more fleckvieh or Holstein.
Was keen for 3 way if Gopollen had been available sexed but nothing they had sexed appealed. Red Cross bred bull calves seem to be worth very little so that put me off.

Yeah sexed fleckvieh. Apparently someone else sexes them for them so there is a big surcharge sadly

Who did you have have the haribo through ?

Local independent CRV agent.

I was told it takes 4 straws of conventional too make one straw of sexed and a popular bulls like Haribo who’s £13 conventional means they have little interest in pushing sexed.

I must confess that I have personally got on really well with sexed fleckvieh straws.
I had 25 Evergreen and 25 Herzog last year. Was almost afraid to use them, but I did use 15 Evergreen sparingly and had 12 heifer calves born recently including 1 pair of twins.

Just using the rest now with a bit more confidence whilst Haribo arrives.

I thought you were not impressed with your flecks , how are your pures performing ?are there bags going too go , could you send some photos sometime the breed interests me , but if you put a fresh calved fleckvieh through a local dairy market would you be limited with how much it makes as it’s s fleckvieh ??

Pures are milking fine, but the second lot i was sent from Austria weren't half the quality of the first lot but that was down too the person selecting them. Several of the sires were definitely not proven or good enough to send half way across europe as foundation breeding stock, and it shows. Couple in the second lot that were by good sires (Hutera) i am pleased with and done over 10,000 as heifers.

I actually think it's just what a lot of people are looking for, and i know i am. A Strong heifer doing 32/33 litres and in good shape. people are fed up with these lean hat racks.

Are you interested in pictures of pures or crossing??

@happycows I agree red X bull calves much more difficult to sell, a good £30 less than a HF calf. Also, we used Gopollen last year, had 140 straws, 75 ish calves and less than 20 heifers. And the Bulls were big. Almost lost one cow. The heifers we did get are beauties though.
