Fleming 12ft roller

Has anyone any experience or solution to stop the scrapers getting blocked to the point they move. It’s impossible to clear them without taking them off which is a real nuisance.

how much space have you got on the scrapers? ive always found if you sharpen them to a leading edge so theyre like a knife and cut the mud off. but dont reverse or you will just snap the knife edge off.

No I haven’t, the problem appears to be the rollers are not perfectly round so in one part the clearance is minimal whereas where the build up starts theres visibly several mm clearance.
The scrapers are 6 ft long. Ie one for each section

The fields are mostly dry so there is a slight build up on top of the scrapers which can be easily awiped off.
however if you have a wet spot or near the entrance it can be soft and that’s when it can start.
I move the scrapers as close to the roller as possible but as the cylinders are not precision it not uniform along the whole 6 ft.. some rollers have spring loaded scrapers but these are fixed held on by 3 screw bolts. Is it a Fleming issue?

Keeping a scraper on a barrel which isn't round is nigh on impossible as you don't want it touching but you do want it very close to run clean. The straight seamed rollers that Fleming produce are not round as there is a large hint at the weld. Know a man that took a grinder to flatten the weld and then had endless problems with it leaking.

Have seen a length of chain across the barrel used as a scraper, don't know how well it worked but could be made that it rubs the barrel, and with either a ram or lever & pin setup can be pulled clear when not needed.

the scappers were good when the rollers were made of pipe but as said nearly all now are rollered plate and only welded outside, also probly have quite a flat sppot on them at the joint.

Yes we also had the weld ground flat nd that is ok, no leaks and as a result we were able to get the scraper closer and in parts close enough to run clean. It’s the areas where you can’t get it close enough that the build up starts. If it’s quite dry the build up is loose and you can clear it with your hand every 10 acres or so, but if a few wet spots then it really gets wedged and undoing the scrapers clearing and resetting is a pain.
