Float valve vs Ballcock

Does anyone have any experience with fitting the the 32mm Topaz Jobe valve to water troughs? Does bottom mounting with the float on a cord work? I can't help but thing the cows will play with the float and break it. Looking to maximise output from large troughs.

Never seen one but they look fine, I would have that inside some sort of guard though, cows love playing with things like that - when the top came off the service box on one of my standard troughs with a ball cock, cows stood there all day watch and pushing until they broke it.

I would worry about it and frost though.

Good job that cows are inquisitive though else a pasture pump wouldn't be much good.

You can get a special service box for Jobe valves. I imagine they are quite expensive though.

Floats on a cord work fine, I've never had a problem with cows destroying them, even on small troughs, although i suppose they could if they emptied them. Not WRAS compliant though...

Another NZ product I believe. Float valves are by far the most popular with dairy farmers in NZ.
If you're water can keep up with your cows requirements then no drama.
3points to be aware of . . .
1 they come with a filter, up to you if you want to put it in or not.
2 you need to be good with knots.
3 the cord wears out at the knot after a few years (depends a lot on how much wind the float catches in my experience) some last much longer than others. Easy fix, you can buy a roll of the cord and cut to lenth .

All in all a good product ?
