I don't know how to do 'links' but national and local BBC doing articles on the benefits of the Vegan lifestyle, also on the 'mental' health that slaughterhouses are causing !!

The BBC caters for the younger audience in general so they are bound to discuss it. The vegan lifestyle is in fashion at present, it will die down in time.

The majority of the population will consume farmed goods, this will never change.

I personally think all this attention we are giving them just acts as free publicity. Ignore them, give them no free airtime. There is nothing we can do to influence individual mindsets.

If we produce good quality products they will always sell.

Here they go again ....big push on Vegan lifestyle ..... Where are the NFU, CLA ,AHDB .....nowhere to be heard !!!!
The NFU have been asked for input on various programmes airing this week.
Veganville on I player and bbc wales
Apocalypse cow on C4
Meat the family on C4

Now whether that input get aired in context or even at all is NOT controlled by the NFU.
So they are working on members behalf but it's the editors choice at the end of the day.

SW NFU have pieces in both the Western morning news and Western daily press both papers and online. These have been timed to link in with veganuary and everyone can do their part on FB twitter etc.
It's very easy to pay your subs and say we need to do more but with the vegans having a huge push including multi million pound ad campaigns it's a battle.

Why don't we see the likes of Tesco etc, the meat processors, the marts having a concerted effort as well, after all it's there business that is being attacked as well!

Because there's about 5x more margin in vegan products. Unfortunately, the retailers hold the cards.

It is really grim. I looked on Iplayer the other day and saw that veganville program. I started watching it and had to switch off in the end.

Damn, I clicked on the BBC’s “Confessions of a slaughterhouse worker”, expecting something with Robin Asquith in, unfortunately not! What a load of inaccurate tripe that article contained. “The vapour of death” , wtf is that? I’ve dispatched hundreds of animals, not even a whiff. Blood on the walls, probably not , as they have to have a clean environment to process the carcass. The lady in question wasn’t even at the business end of operations.

What makes you think they even asked those organisations? It would suit the BBC agenda for that comment to be made.
Because I rang and asked them why there was no alternative to the vegan lifestyle being given . They replied they had contacted but had got no reply . I suppose if you make contact out of hrs then that would be the case but I bet the 'vegan' contributer had been given prior notice !!
On another point .....I think it is in the supermarkets interest to be speaking out for the meat industry. You only had to look at the queues for Christmas meat products for them to realise that the meat industry is still very much a big market for them.
I understand the feelings of 'being sick to death of BBC and vegans ' but if we don't sit on it at some level quite hard it will only get broader and easier for them. I don't try to persuade or engage with vegans to debate or change but I feel we've must do everything in our power to keep the meat eating population eating meat and if that means being vocal then I'm afraid we will have to do it .

God I’m sick to fudging death of hearing about the bbc and vegans!

I totally agree with you. Its boring. Most people don't want to be vegan, they like eating meat and they trust the farmers that are producing the meat. Just because people have eaten to much chocolate and booze over xmas, they're making out meat is an issue. By all means eat more veg

more to the point, you can be sure that the vegan contributor was available 24/7 because they will have done their job properly; built relationships with journalists, provided permanently staffed mobile numbers, not constantly slagged off the bbc. You know, the sort of stuff you would do if you wanted to get your voice heard.

I don't care what anyone says to the contrary, the NFU continue to show themselves to be totally and utterly inept on this issue. They have had countless suggestions made to them on here over the last 12 months on how they could up their game.
Defenders of the NFU, don't bother coming back at me i'm not interested, just go and give the communications department and almighty kick up the backside.

You found it, ie had to go searching for it. Did they send it out as a link to levy payers ? because if they did I missed it. The bits I have just looked at on there are pretty crap anyway. Why is everyone so obsessed with taking the line that 'meat may be bad for the environment but it's not as bad as flying/driving/having a bath........' ? What a pathetic way to promote your business.

Do the supermarkets care? As long as they are selling something and making money I don't think it would bother them what the product is. As for the processors, perhaps they see it as another way to keep farm gate prices low........

You get the feeling that the NFU are more concerned about selling their insurance products than countering Vegan untruths. However, Minette Batters did a good job on Farming today at weekend, but one off type things aren't good enough, the same message has to constantly repeated to keep driving home the importance of grass reared meat, dairy, etc to the environment and your health. Also, IMO government health warnings (like smoking) should be put on all vegan products warning on the potential health hazards of prolonged use if it's not part of a normal balanced diet..

I agree Minette was good on farming today ......but isn't that preaching to the converted ?
Not sure how many members of public listen to Farming Today . I heard Stuart Roberts speak exceptionally well a few weeks ago .....but it was to a group of farmers .........
I just wish they could get the same messages out into the public arena . It's no good relying on the BBC or gatherings of farmers and likeminded people .

I actually think far more of the (radio 4) general public listen to 'Farming Today' than you would suspect. Somewhat anecdotal but the numbers of my non farming friends and relatives, who ask me about items they have heard on it is quite surprising.
