Food shortages being kept quiet?

Morrison’s delivery yesterday only one substitution extra thick cream instead of double cream I consider that an upgrade

the roads round here are extra busey and the local truck stop is full by 8pm and turning trucks away as normal
they have been voted best truck stop in England in previous years

A long time as I’d rather use lamlac or calf milk replacer than cows colostrum 🤮
Still on coal Aga so heating and cooking wouldn’t be compromised here but 95% of homes would struggle with no Popty Pings
DON'T DO IT AL!!

When I was 17 doing my farm placement for college I had the bright idea of saving 49p and using lamlac in my brew, for the first three days I convinced myself that it was fine until Friday night at the Pear tree and the barmaid wanted just £1.80 for a pint!

Been shortages with our deliveries for months, Up to 50% not delivered mid summer but that was mainly due to 60 million people embarking on the area, phones went down for 8 weeks, shops empty and pubs closing multiple times a week to give staff a break.
What really doesn’t help is holidayers not changing their Tesco delivery address and the delivery men turning up to the holiday cottage they were in a few weeks ago yet the “buyer” is in London somewhere 🤦🏻‍♂️At one point the drivers were saying they were having this happen multiple times a day.
Just take the food in and give it to a local food bank. This is what a friend was doing having had the same thing happen to him. He reckons he gave away about £1,000 worth of shopping in the end.

If you shop online you are contributing to CO2 emissions.
Brother in law drove for Morrison's, and the retracing of routes and waiting parked up was unbelievable to achieve timed slots across the area. They have now subbed it to Amazon, so profitable was it, running their own vans.

It has been building up for a while. Middle of lockdown our corner shop couldn't get milk without phoning Booker in advance to see if they had some and shooting over there before it all went. Booker blamed 'supply issues', of course what they really meant was 'Our parent company Tesco are keeping their stores stocked first, they don't really like you independent retailers'. There have been plenty of examples in recent years of how the cartel now run the country, the fact that Tesco were allowed by the CMA to buy Booker because 'it's a different market' being just one of them. Market share is the root of all evil.

Give it 5 years they wont exist, Tesco probably had to commit to keep them going for a period of time for their buyout to be approved, they will be running it all down, ready for some arrangement where to keep your corner shop going you have to go round the back of your local Tesco and beg for the stuff with a few hours left on its shelf life.

It will be sold as efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint of food. Everything is branded same now. Even reducing tax on domestic airline flights - as it will drive local internal flights and thus reduce log haul flights. That will be the political message.

Already happening after a fashion around here, folk I known that used to go to Bookers for stock now go to Tesco’s and fill several trolleys full, because it’s cheaper that way.
Farming neighbours of ours that make proper cider is having to find a new glass bottle supplier because their usual one has signed an exclusive deal with the mighty Tesco and can’t supply anyone else.

Quite clear.
Perhaps you should correct F24 as they seem to think you ain't seen nothing yet.

Nothing new, it's not long ago the French were throwing British lamb into the sea. They set fire to one truck killing 219 sheep, in another case they seized and slaughtered over 300, so nothing will surprise anyone.

"Farmers angered by falling meat prices seized a truck Thursday carrying 386 British sheep, slaughtered the animals and left their carcasses outside a government building, officials said. ... The truck, which originated in Scotland, was intercepted early Thursday near Limoges, central France.6 Sept 1990"

We can only respond by avoiding the Citroen, Peugeot and Renault car garages.

Macron will reap what he sow's, he won't be in charge for much longer.

Hunger in France’s land of plenty

Visitors may love the vibrant street markets and countless cheeses, but something is badly wrong with France’s food system. In the absence of joined-up policy, could urban farming point the way forward?

It is the biggest single issue facing UK ag, yet no-one wants to even go there.

The supply solution is easily resolved, however it will take time.

Instead of importing everything "just in time" we'll just have to create British jobs, in British Companies making things !

Our supermarket culture underbelly is being exposed, it appears we maybe can't just pop in for a packet of Greek Cherry's on Christmas Day - Not before time !!!

Mrs G is away with the kids and left me fending for myself. Ventured up to the Co-op in the next village last night as I needed a loaf of bread. 1st time I've been in there since March 2020, and as they have had a re jig of all the shelves had to trawl around to find the bread. One thing I did notice were the shelves of crisps were completely bare.

Breaking news on France24 .
From 02 November France are to impose border checks on goods from Britain and prevent British fishing boats from accessing French ports, if the situation regarding the fishing licences does. not improve, the Maritime and European Affairs Ministries said in a joint statement. So you'll have plenty of fish to eat.

While 8.0m people in France go under nourished !

You may have used up your EU expense account building the most expensive road in the World for the 850,000 people on Reunion Island, a snip for the EU taxpayers at 2,300,000,000 euro's.

Vive La France, Vive La EU (when they are paying out)

As reported by that bastion of unbiased views the Daily Mail….

Not saying it didn’t happen but it shows that if there is sufficient passion for a cause within an EU member country then action can be taken…albeit illegally.

If you don't like or believe the Daily Fail, then don't.

The French are supporters of the EU, when they are paying out (as that ridiculous road shows) other than that, my guess an EU referendum would see them leave.

I suppose the Mail could have made it up...........Eh !

We arrived here in France on the 1st of September 2019, I therefore am no expert on the goings on here, however, one thing I have noticed is that they are very good at looking after one another. It strikes me that whilst a lot of money was spent on that road I would guess that most of it filtered down into the local communities one way or another. They seem to be quite adept at finding ways to support or subside communities indirectly. Whilst you may not think it fair I have to say from our side of the water it is refreshing to live somewhere that appears to look after it’s citizens.
