Scarsdale Farm Vets

3 h ·
Unfortunately, testing is currently underway in relation to a possible case of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMDV) in Norfolk. Our hearts go out to those farmers that are waiting for these results and we very much hope for a negative outcome.
FMDV is a disease of cloven hooved animals, which includes most of the farm species that we treat. I'm sure many people will remember the horrific scenes in the early 2000's when the disease was widespread across the UK, and we sincerely hope that this will not be repeated.
What can you do?
If you have a vet attending your farm at any point, please provide plenty of clean water in a bucket for your vet to scrub down with when they arrive on farm, and a further bucket for when they are leaving (We will add FAM30 disinfectant to the water). This should be placed on a clean, hardstanding area where your vet can park their car, allowing them to clean their waterproofs without getting dirty again in the process or after changing into their normal shoes.
Please also remember, that its not just Vets than need to be biosecure - ANYONE coming on and off of your farm must wash and disinfect their shoes/boots/waterproofs etc with FAM30.
For more information about this potential outbreak please visit the AHPA website, we will also post any further updates when they come through.

Just heard that the quick test has come back negative for F&M, but they take several repeat tests. Early indications are good, but not completely in the clear yet.
Update: 11.04am, Friday, 24 June:

A Defra spokesperson said: “Preliminary testing does not indicate the presence of disease, but further work is now underway to fully rule it out.”

Norfolk show next week I think. Anyone still considering taking stock there now without this being confirmed as something else first need lynching.
We will know long before then!

If it is confirmed then all livestock movements will be stopped and all shows cancelled as soon as it is confirmed ( which hopefully it will not be )

Complete madness to import strains of F+M from other country's for testing at pirbright! this needs to be stopped now regardless of the results from this pig farm!

Why should they? It’s not been confirmed yet.
Awareness of the general public for a start. I've posted on my village FB site that a suspected case has been reported locally and anyone recently in the Brecks could they not wear the same footwear or walk on village footpaths across fields especially where livestock are present

I suspect they have much nastier stuff than F&M in there.

It’s a good job their biosecurity is so good.👍
