Everyone always checks the ewes as well, never the sheep.

Used to drive me mad when Bert used to refer to the YOUNG STOCK (two separate words with equal emphasis on both words) Doesn't everyone else refer to YOUNGstock (said as one word with emphasis on young).

Ah I've only been listening since after Bert retired but I can imagine that would be annoying in the same way. I'm actually quite enjoying the change of system at Brookfield as we are grazing based too and they seem fairly well informed. But Saint Pip the Future of Brookfield is far too clever for her own good. The other night Alistair told her she should be proud of herself and she replied 'I am' !!!! Smug as can be!

I am just really pleased for the dairy farmers among us that the job has improved so much that, from a few short months ago Brookfield was nearly ruined with having to pay out all their neighbours a generous IBR compensation package running into thousands of pounds each, on top of the impact on their own herd; they have turned the corner, found the time and money for a sunshine holiday, and Pip has made good the losses by not buying a load of cake and having taken a few relief milking shifts.

They're never done going on about the "herd " , always sounds very artificial to me , and I said so on an Archer's site , years ago. I don't think though , they've ever bettered the outbreak of grass staggers in Hereford bullocks - must be ten years ago now or more.

Mind you Adam was " taking silage out to the ewes" just last month . Whit? in October - on land that dairy cows graze from 14th February ??

What? Was it not worse when Dee-vid was concerned that an Ayrshire bullock may beat them at the primestock show, a couple of years ago?
Absolutely NO dig intended @Cowmangav , but really??? This, and when Peep was replaced by someone older sounding than her Mother , pretty well lost my interest in Brookfield.
Well that , plus the fact that the uber catty Archers BBC page was replaced by a much tamer version:(

I think they boobed again last night. Ruth and Pip were going out to bring the dairy cows in for the winter. As opposed to just keeping them in after milking time! - since they were all calving from Feb to April , they presumably are still milking. Who writes this guff?

Thought they said they were bringing the 'Herefords' in????
Listened again ( the first time I was on the Edinburgh City Bypass - so not listening over carefully) and Ruth calls Pip , - Pip then says " Are you at the paddocks?" Ruth says " Yes - lets get these COWS in " . Don't think the Herefords are paddock grazed.

So , more skitter from the Archers.

I have only been listening for the last 20 od years, but I'm sure the story lines used to be more accurate?
Brookfield gets on my nerves too.

Many, and I mean many, years ago I used to watch Emmerdale, as it was then, and found it amusing to see some city girl ploughing a field after 2 minutes!

Watching Peaky Blinders the other day I was surprised to see a horse drawn wagon with modern pick-up (small) bales on board hiding the gun men.

Clearly a better standard of agricultural advice needed in the mass media.
