Forage rape/stubble turnips

First time we've grown the above, turned the cows in today and they dont quite know what to do with it?
Is this normal - they'll have never seen it before?
How long until they work out what to do with it, they did go into the field quite full from grass as I didn't want them to bloat on the forage rape and wanted them to get used to it first
Thanks

They will get the hang of it in a few days, quicker if you turn them in a bit hugrier.

I've actually given up on turnips for winter feed for cattle because they just waste so many of the bulbs in a wet time.
I'm thinking the same for next year, I pick up one or two on my way back in from the field to feed to a couple of pets and they only eat the greens for some reason. Hoping to get to doing it earlier next hesr and do some kale instead as it should be higher yielding.

Just worried about bloat if I turn them in to hungry at the beginning, at what point can I stop worrying and give them more access?

If your concerned about bloat just let them on for an hour or two then get them off, do this for a couple of days an they should be fine! We do this with kale, when they’ve eaten the grass or weeds amongst it they’ll start on the rape, they will eat the turnips eventually, hunger makes you less picky

Heres mine, never grown them before so not sure if this is good or bad!
200kg of 25%nitrogen/acre 2kg drilled of 60%rape 40% stubble turnip
Sprayed the grass off in the morning and then direct drilled in the evening :) overall really pleased!
