Ford 6610 engine replacement

Evening all..... i know, another prous 10 series.

We decided to take the plunge and get a replacement block from MJRobinsons today. short block delivered with conversion kit (studs, gaskets etc).

Ive had the head off and can see no real faults, and once ive filled the water jacked, the water starts trickling out of the sump. Not so good 'Eh.

so new short engine it is and for £1700, i genuinely think thats great.

So my question. Any advice on the big split???

ive got her in the workshop, ready to go. plenty of jack, stands, cranes and a digger on standby. but i just wondered of there is something anyone would reccomend before i delve in tomorrow??

Thanks all.

J F Engineering rebuilt both my Ford County Tractors over the years. Superb job, 'linered', which is the only way to go. As far as I know they are still working. Heads are now all pretty much of the same spec but earlier engines had head issues with torque loads being different.

I'm just reading your post and I have a question ,I have a 6610 that put a Conrod outside ,the shaft seems perfect as it broke the cap off clean ,would it be possible to weld the block as it broke down low

I would suggest overhauling head as well

i would like too but time and facilities and also money are getting tight. I work away and have a sporadic week off in which im doing this. other wise the old man would be without his tractor for a prolonged period.
It's a new engine and not reconditioned?
new short engine yeah. So block, piston, cam, crack etc. just add top end and ancils. for the money, there is some good peace of mind there.

nice. i didnt know of these and im in essex. so guessing pretty local - ish. depending on cost, id always consider recondition the old block for a rainy day!

personally, thats a new block to me. welding something like that is way above my remit or id guess any ones. i mean nothing is impossible right....

ill have a block for sale soon, just needs boring and sleeving :)

I once spent £800 on a short engine for a 4600, assumed to be porous.
Bolted all together and still leaking water to sump, eventually discovered pinhole in a core plug under rockershaft on the head.
So it has happened before at least once.

Agreed. Defo could be other things associated.

My core plugs look immaculate however and as mentioned, I filled the water jacket up with water, and watched it trickle out if the sump. So there is a fundemental issue with the block/cam/ something. That was my reservation with liners and boring. Hence why we went for the longer term solution.
