Do you have experience of the quality of their work,
I have a 6600 tractor that shat its oil on the mobile drier one day, and cooked the engine. That price looks fair enough for a replacement tbh.

I think 1700 for a new replacement is brilliant. Its the newer ribbed engine too so al be it still a standard block, its the slightly better NH version.

Surely coupled with .aube a better newer and more modern coolant, will it not go porous....?? Who knows

Well, busy day today!

The clutch is in amazing condition. I do agree to an extent its false economy, however if you have tonnes of meat on it and a really sweet running bearing, why change it...? On this i think ill take the chance. However I do appreciate the views.

Engine block is doe to arrive tomorrow so the rebuilding will commence.

Ill post updates if anyone is interested.

You've made short work of that job so far, well done.

Are you going to check out the old block to see where the leaky bit is? Keen to see pics of it if you are.

I think so yeah.

Once everything has been swapped over to the new block, and its all boxed up, ill probably strip the old one for spares and have a look at the cylinders.

I did poke my head in earlier to see but posting position and gunk inside meant I couldn't see much. But if I find owt, ill stick it up here

The coupler is easy it's the shaft that takes a bit of doing.but if it's never been done it's probably past it's best they changed to a different spline on the later ones and they are supposed to last longer

Few years back when putting a new block in my ford 4600 and having done same to a 6600 and 7610 in the past and talking to John at Park Engineering in Malton who were skimming the head. Got on about the newer criss cross blocks and porosity of said and the old blocks. He thought it was more that the galleries with coolant and oil were too close together and that engine flex cracked the metal between said galleries. Hence the crisis cross reinforcement - which he thought didn’t help much. I still think they can corrode through as well and defo use a quality coolant at 50/50 and even use that distilled water too someone once suggested. Change it every 2 or 3 years too. Still have the 4600 but not going to jinx it by saying anything about it 😉

I would replace it matter of course if you are intending to do some PTO work with the tractor and keep her a while longer.
This is totally unassosciated with the engine/block/front end however....??

Thats not a pointy.finger question. I've checked gearbox splines. They are great, pto is in very good nic too. Its a very underused tractor it really is.

Maybe a topper has run on it. Or about 20 years ago when I was 12, I was driving it with a trailer of bales. Thats it really.

So, we are in and running.

Does anyone have any idea why I would be getting blow by from the breather still....??

I think my timing may be just off too but not by much. however the blow by pressure worries me still.

To note, the tractor ran for about 30 mins and the top coolant pipe was still cold. Turns out the stat is faulty too. So could heat have caused this? Or new engine? Or just the old breather is still clogged with crap

Is this a totally new engine?

If so, it's obviously going to breath until the rings bed in, and the worst thing you can do it run it around without any load. Straight to hard work at varying revs, 25% to full load.

Really..... I've tentatively been sitting on idle just to play it safe!!! Is this profound advice? Or just one of those "meh, let's trust gun it", Jeremy Clarkson esc?
