Ford 6810 III fuel issues

Hello,

a friend of mine has dirty diesel issues...

A Ford 6810, J Reg, Generation 3. SQcab

It idles for a while, then hunts, then stops, priming and bleeding sets it going again.

changed both fuel filters, which were solid with crap, removed tank, swilled out, cleaned gauze on the end of the suction pipe in the tank.

Primer on filter housing also replaced.

Is there somewhere else cack could be lurking? Is there a filter on the end of the rotary pump?

Ran it tonight, but not happy that the problem is solved...

Suggestions, anyone?

Not according to this.....

Rotary pumps on fords were the work of the devil - those Minimec in line pumps would run on sludge.
Primer on filter housing also replaced.
By that I presume you mean the lift pump (16 in parts list above)
Not familiar with this model but some of the later CNH lift pumps for rotaries had a gauze in.

It has two fuel filters, I'm used to David Brown's, they are longer than those, one has a glass bowl in the bottom.

What's a sedimentor...?
It’s just a settling pot for shyte pre filter.
Dismantle the pipe fittings where fuel enters the filter heads. There can muck in them restricting the fuel. It gets stuck where the fitting reduces the pipe diameter.
I can’t remember if there’s a gauze where the fuel pipe enters the pump. If you take it off watch you don’t get any dirt in it.
Are you sure it’s not drawing air if you’ve had everything to bits. Check filter seals. It can draw air in through the drain screws on the bottom of the filters.

.8210's and TW's had them.

I think this too, but the parts book would seem to suggest otherwise...

Not keen on stripping the thing down just to get some crud in there, and no filter...
Beaten to posting a breakdown of the pump but there's definitely a filter in there. It's in the same place as it is in a proper tractor....
I must confess that I didn't know there was a filter on the inlet of those pumps until a blue tractor fan thought he'd have a look at the filter on the 996 that hadn't been out in over 20 years, it was spotless.

It should be, thats what all the filters are there for, if its clogged then it has had serious issues.
