As per the title. Early 7610 permanently in 2wd. Any suggestions where to start checking or anyone know of the common cause? Could really do without spending hours fault finding.

First check your dual power as fuse supplies 4/w/d use's same one, if ok check under tractor r/h side on transfer box eng off ign on get someone to move switch in cab back and forth you should hear a click as solenoid works ,if not remove small 50mm sq plate with 4 bolts behind that is wire feeding solenoid it comes in via a metal tube, and wire can chafe and blow fuse, wire connects up near r/h front of cab near where d/p is connected, renew if ness..

Dual power is working but have been told that 4wd only works in one position of the dual power so going to check that in a bit.

I thought it was odd but it does appear to have been rewired but even so I can see no reason for it and it should be easy to get it right by rewiring correctly.
Have checked solenoid and have a switched supply to that and it is clicking when I apply / remove the supply so i assume it is internal. What is involved there?

IIRC you can remove the access plate to see the solenoid. You can actually remove the solenoid and bung up the hole quickly to save draining the oil. To make it even easier rig up an old hoover to the filler plug to create a vacuum. Double check that the solenoid is clean and clear and rig it up on a battery to make sure it operates as it should. If it does it's drop the drop box off job

Are you sure 4/w/d is not working as it is difficult to know unless you are pulling heavy i have never had one yet that on these where the discs and plates were worn out ,as stated ref solenoid if you remove the wire then try it 4/w/d should be engaged, come back if no good and will post picture of internals.

Definitely not working as have had tractor standing still on a slippery slope with back wheels spinning (diff lock on) but no movement from front wheels at all. Supply to solenoid is switching on and off from switch. Lots of strange things on this tractor appearing. Not sure if it could be connected but lift arms do not work off quadrant and are operated via the assistor ram plumbed in to a spool valve. Loader on other spool. Both spools operate but I wonder if the drop box is not getting the oil supply it requires?
Electrics have been bodged as fuse boxes appear rough and supply for dual power and 4wd rewired onto new switches which work fine.

If dual power is working then 4/w/d gets pressure from same sourse, ref hyd's have you got two hyd pump's one on right side on r/axle casing and one on left of engine near flywheel, with dual pumps spool valves use both pumps together but lift arms only use main pump never come across that bodge before of using assistor ram off spools, with dual pumps there is a combining valve on top cover at front but you would need a pressure gauge to set it up, that, as it's name allows pressure and flow from both pumps to go to spools and two possibility's, it could be blocked [ very small gauze filter about 12mm long can break up and or small ball and seat is worn] other fault could be main pump badly worn d/p and 4/w/d uses a piggy back pump driven by main pump, pressure check is really only answer is pressure check on low pressure and each pump for high pressure.

Only one hydraulic pump on axle.

Ok that is basic one but have you looked to see if there is a valve block on top of top cover at front you can take a cover off just in front of seat to see valve will put photo up soon as i can if the hyd's work as they are i would suspect something wrong inside top cover, what cab q or ap..........

Hi, what happens when you pull out aux service button then move quadrant lever to the top, it should blow prv on pump, if not do's lever feel sloppy of has resistance when moving it?, this is what your linkage should look like

A pressure check should be done on main hyd's at spools you should see 2450-2550 psi also check low pressure on small metal pipe feeding 4/w/d should be about 140 + psi, if you look on right of front axle it will have a plate with apl number .......................
