Hello, what happends if i overfill my engine oil about 5mm above maximum level on the dipstick?

Good luck taking the drain plug out and dropping the level never seems to go as planned. 5 mm will be gone in no time. It’s a ford. I find new oil burns off a small amount the first day then seems to stay at that level until it’s close to needing changing again.5mm over won't matter one bit, but why not just let some back out and it won't be an issue?
As long as its not more than 100% overfull then you should be right any more than that then your getting into a point where serious damage might occur.A little bit over will make no odds.
Seen them just burn to a level too. Our oldest one has always done it, just burns back to the same spot on the stick, been like that for 30yr and 18000hrs!
what do you mean by 100% overfull? double the ammount that the dipstick says?As long as its not more than 100% overfull then you should be right any more than that then your getting into a point where serious damage might occur.
ours does not burn oil. but it leaks between the bottom pan and the block. we have tried torquing the bolts a little bit extra, but it did not do anything, do you have any advise?A little bit over will make no odds.

Yeah nah, quite literally double the required maximum.what do you mean by 100% overfull? double the ammount that the dipstick says?

Have they still got this issue with Powerstar? Mine is quite dry but I had to do exactly as you describe many years ago on a 1986 Ford 7610 SeriesII. No issue with the 7810 Series III that replaced it or my current 1997 NH8360.You need to remove the oil pan and replace the gasket, but the front axle support needs to be moved forward about an inch and a half first.
Yeah, there is a maximum mark. But i was in a hurry filling, so i dis not eait long enought for the oil level to reach the dipstick before i filled again..Have they still got this issue with Powerstar? The issue, when it occurs, is due to a horizontal and vertical seam gasket meeting.
Isn’t there a hatched section on the dipstick of Powerstar engines with an ‘absolute maximum’ notch a centimetre or so further up? I can’t be sure without looking at the actual dipstick and I’m not about to do that at quarter past eleven at night.
Do not exceed the maximum mark. The oil level should be in the hatched area, the top of which should be regarded as ‘full'.Yeah, there is a maximum mark. But i was in a hurry filling, so i dis not eait long enought for the oil level to reach the dipstick before i filled again..
But, can it hurt the engine?Do not exceed the maximum mark. The oil level should be in the hatched area, the top of which should be regarded as ‘full'.
I would take the oil filter off and drain it, then refit if it worried me that much. But it will be fine.Good luck taking the drain plug out and dropping the level never seems to go as planned. 5 mm will be gone in no time. It’s a ford. Yes if over the maximum mark. Don’t know how much over because I’ve never filled over the hatched marks. Basically the crank is likely to slap the mass of oil like a hammer and lord knows what the consequences will be. Best not to find out eh?But, can it hurt the engine?
