After a moment of ebay button madness back in November, I have another project.
ford 8200 blade schindler 4wd.jpg

Sold as needing front axle rebuild but the cab is in excellent order and I'd rather spend time (money) on the oily bits than weld rust to rust.

Blade off and sold to pay haulage from Cambridge.

That front axle has had a bit of grief. Blade has been on since new. 40 years!

Everything works though.

I couldn't resist a cheap box / nose protector and some not so cheap work-lights.

I think axle has been running a bit dry. :(

Bottom pivot worn. Cup part of bearing totally disappeared.

And all the sideways force from the blade has pulled the heads off the crown wheel bolts. I only found 2 of the heads.

The loose metal has rounded all the allen key heads off around the outside too. Can't leave it like that.

But I've had a better morning today. Pulled the diff out.

Both of these spacers should be the same.
But these 3 headless bolts just needed knocking through. No need to struggle.

Plate is an easy replace.
Bolts are 16mm ht bar for the lathe man.

I even managed to get all the rounded-off cap head allen studs out of the crown wheel.

Axle ends unbolt so each piece is 'only' 30kg to machine out the pivot housing to take a roller bearing rather than the spherical bearing.

half a million.
Found some spherical bearings to fit the pivot pins, which I was told were unobtainable.

Dead chuffed. lathe man has made new pins so almost complete, I just need to bale 35 acres of hay and lead it in tomorrow, then I can go and collect stuff.
I might have an extra tractor by harvest.
But I do need to build another shed as all sheds will be full of hay. Every silver lining has a cloud.

Went to look at a 7740 today too. Ooops.
