Try not using the handbrake to stop it as it is a transmission brake & it could break up jamming the tractor in gear, Real pain fixing a transmission brake.

Really? I didn't know that just as well it's been parked up for a while I'm surprised that all the parts are relatively cheap top all the brake components especially

All the non genuine seems to be made in the same factory in Not-quite-fit-istan, but I got all my stuff from agriline, best thing is that it doesn't say 'vintage' on the bill!

Does anyone know if you can get a new solenoid to fit this motor if so which type? Or am I better off just renewing it it used to start if you crossed it and pulled the lever manually

So by the looks of things you start it on the key, rather than pushing down on a handle which was connected to the starter? From the picture its a 4.5 inch Lucas starter, is there any markings on the main body? Give it a wipe and see, no you don't need a new starter.
That box in the picture, its like a regulator, any wires on that?

Yeah was talking with dad today they did away with the starter handle and put an ignition on it! I will look for any markings I only had a quick look we were busy turning stock out but did notice that no wires were connected to the regulator I may change it anyway they are only £25 as far as I know! Think I'm winning him over now on spending some money on it (y)

Consider doing away with the regulator and dynamo and fitting a secondhand Lucas alternator. It wont be original, but will charge the battery better (at tick-over) and be far more reliable than the dynamo/regulator combo and easier to wire up. That's good, but you mightn't have to spend that much, more time than anything else?

its that straight forward to put an alternator on instead ?I was thinking of doing but thought it wasn't that easy, not worried about keeping it original as it's not original with the super major engine in it!
Appreciate all the info @Mursal

As above, or this type only has two wires, the big terminals (both +) go to the battery wire on the starter solenoid (positive) and the little one goes to the charging warning light, which you might have to fit. The other wire on the warning light goes to the ignition switch. Very straightforward, just mount it so the belt is in line with the water pump pulley. Local scrapyard might have something? No worries, just ask, glad to help.
