Fordson Major very smoky and running rough

Cylinder #4 does not have compression but the valves are shutting like the rest of them.
But when The injector line is disconnected off the side of the engine it blows out air when the engine is turned over....

Do I need to replace the injector inside it or is there something I can do to fix this?

think you have lost the tip off the injector.

Right. So I guess I should fetch it from the cylinder if That is what the problem is

Remove it and fit pipe and turn it over
Stand out of the way you should see a good spray pattern not a dribble

If the nozzle has broken away. there could well be bits of it lying in the cylinder, or embedded in the piston. either way, the injector needs removal, and if incomplete the head also.

Okay, it it possible that the nozzle has got stuck because I have noticed the engine running rough before and then going back to normal

Either way, injector has to come out for repair.

Yes it isnt burning the fuel properly... question now is where is the bit that fell off?

Has the orifice in the tip in the nozzle become blocked preventing atomised fuel coming out and the build up of pressure broke the tip ?

possibly or could just be metal fatigue.

Trying to get it now, taking the head off the engine and unveiling many other issues

I feel like the inlet ports shouldn't be all dirty and the valves leaking oil into them.

I’d say your best taking the head to get serviced at a cylinder head specialist maybe 150.00 and the injectors serviced / repaired (35-40 each.)
