Forest Pre School

Hello

My name is Hannah and I am currently an Early Years teacher in County Durham. My colleague and I are looking for some land to lease in which we could open a forest school nursery in the County Durham area. We are both very passionate about outdoor learning and connecting children with the outdoors.

We would be very grateful if you could possibly point us in the right direction as we are struggling to find land which we could lease in order to do this. We are finding it very difficult to find land.

Thank you in advance

Not really knowing the North East, but did you want to be more area specific than Co Durham?
George tells me it's quite a big county (but not as big as Shropshire obviously!!)
Thanks for your reply. We are quite open to the area in general but we would like to be as close to Durham city centre as we can. We have both grown up in Co Durham so most of the areas are very familiar to us. As long as the land was close to built up areas.

Why cannot you do it at a normal nursery school premises. I have a primary school which is a forest school which I have provided the large timber. group furniture and teaching aids.

As I understand it here in Scotland anyway they don't have enough buildings to run these nurserys in and because the government has promised more childcare for children without having the resources/buildings to house all the children, councils have turned to using their other assets such as woodlands in town and killed two birds with one stone, having a crack at the forest kindergarten type thing and saving them having to invest in any new buildings. Could be different in England though

Anyway wish the OP all the best with their search, when I was at nursery I spent more time outside than I did inside!

At this primary school they spend most of there summer lessons outdoors and even keep there own animals pigs.sheep.goats. chickens ducks. geese. Seems quite odd for a built up suburb of Bolton but thy have won awards for it.
