Anybody have anything like a seppi mini if so what are they like?
Or any other brands for that matter.

Any dealers for these in the northwest as I’m coming up with very little on internet

I have a flail mower with hammers but really need something a bit more brutal for some bugger stuff. But I don’t want a massive machine as it’s all steep undulating land.
What’s the best ?hammer type ? or fixed blades ?
Regards karl

Yes I have a Mini-BMS 105. Fixed blades are definitely best for heavy going. Brush and grass go for swinging flails.

They do need a decent amount of oil to get the power out, although the motor swing is adjustable to cope with different flows from the hammer circuit.

You will also need a free flow return piped for the motor AND ideally a rotate circuit plumbed so that you can open/close the door, although you could get away with a diverter valve too off another service.

If you want a quote speak to either Andrew Holbrow @ ArborAgri based in Shrops

Alternatively Andy Fuller @ Lamberhurst Engineering should be able to sort you too.

I had a 5' Seppi behind an 80HP JD. Fine for clearing rides through tops/brash. This was a swing-hammer type so not in the ground. I looked closely at all on show at the 2004(?) APF & ended up with Seppi. Good strong machine. It was used behind a 150HP Massey & was very happy for the week I hired it out. I was paid in a set of new hammers(y) It would eat green stumps as well when it had new hammers on & this was particularly useful in certain places.
Another fan of Lamberhurst folk. They kept the Ferrari 86 going!

Ok that puts a different spin on things. I would always get a machine that’s wide enough to cover the track width of the tractor.

I’m not sure I’d bother with fixed tooth flails unless you’re getting it to eat predominantly a diet of large wood. Swinging flails are more versatilie in that they will leave a good finish on grass and rough growth. Fixed tooth is better at eating wood and not so great on other things. You also pay a significant premium for fixed tooth initially and when you need to change the teeth over swinging flails. Obviously that cost goes up proportionally with the working width of the rotor/machine. Seppi’s are expensive to begin with and will make your eyes water when you get to the wide fixed tooth machines.

There are some machines available second hand, but mostly in continental Europe, barely a handful here in the UK. They are primarily bought as forestry flails and ground reclamation machines, and they are built heavy to suit that usage.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
