Foul In The Foot - at grass

Got a batch of 40 calves 6 to 9 months old, and have had 5 come down with foul in the foot in the last 6 weeks.

It’s easy enough to treat with antibiotics and foot spray, and they are usually back to normal within a week. But is there anything that can be put in place while grazing that helps prevent it?

Routine foot-bathing isn’t an option where they are.

Its only one batch that seems to have got it, none of the other fields have had a case yet, touch wood.

We have had a fair few this year also

Is the field in question got any more rushes, thistles, docks etc in it than the others?? Or any stones or boulders around nd even a lot of broken wood??

Mainly just to see as if so will find they are cutting there feet or skin on these and then the infection is getting in that way

Not really anything lying around, but it is heavy clay and was as hard as concrete for the months of April and May when it first started.

Think dry, hard ground is the main reason for it this year. Had a bull with it a fortnight ago. Jag, kept inside for 3 days then he was back out running around after cows like a dafty
