Had the pleasure of seeing him live at Torquay theatre a little while before he died. That man could paint pictures with words. He spoke a lot about his love of steam as much as his steeple jacking. We were in the front row and I remember clearly looking along the row at one point to see all the men captivated, and over half the accompanying wives dozing!

Not a nutter at all, tried and tested way of doing it, I don't recall him getting killed from falling off

how many did get killed doing such stuff though ? looks fraught with potential failures to me? so many things there that could go wrong and if you rolled the dice enough eventually sure;y would do

everyone is lucky until they are not!

no he was not a nutter just a good old fashioned workman that did his job without complaint, what this country needs is more like him ,by the way i don't recall him causing any damage whilst doing his work. myself i get giddy standing on a chair
He laddered the same chimney several times and used the same holes as well. (y)

Needed fred yesterday to fetch that chap down from a 270ft chimney in carlise. Fred didnt need a cherry picker or helicopter

I could have got that chap down yesterday easy !

Would have taken about 3 seconds to get him back on the ground and he would have been no more dead than he was at the top !

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
