Frost Seeding

I tried rape and stubble turnip with one of those. Thought there was a lot of broken seeds.
Very fast though. Actually it got a lot faster at the end when the seed was running low:whistle:
I have a similar one (cheap chinese version of the megabucks logic one) its an absolute bitch to try and set a good rate on. 2kg an acre of turnip seed is either 0.5kg an acre or 4kg an acre nothing inbetween :banghead::banghead:
Took it apart did some bodgineering on it and it does 1kg to 3kg so its a bit hetter but not much :(
Just do the field twice works ok and was £1000 less than the logic (y)
Will hopefully try some overseeding with it this year speed might he my friend on that one

Ive an old vicon varispreader. I should've sown it two ways instead of one way, larger seed was getting spread wide, but the light seed wasn't going far.
Chequered pattern would've been far more attractive to look at.

I just made up a little variable speed controller for my one with a little 555 timer IC and a big transistor to handle the current without getting too hot, so I can set it about the right opening and vary the motor speed from the cab (y) and it had a little rubber thing for an agitator but I pulled that out and replaced it with a used cable tie...
And you can mix the seed with stuff to help regulate it / bulk it out, I used cheap kitty litter to bulk out clover plantain and ryegrass on some steep stuff that the tractor couldn't stick to

I reckon it will spin red clover about 14 metres at full speed and about half that for grass seeds, so I just drive at "half that" and it seems to work nicely without leaving stripes, amazing where this machine will go

like, dirtbike territory!

@JD-Kid knows about these Can-ams

We bought this little spinner to replace an old vicon that we knackered by putting it on too big a tractor  bent everything important on the metering thing and then wouldnt work right. Bodged it with different lengths of box section and pipe over the plastuc rod with the spinny metering thing on it to suit different ferts and seeds but it didnt last long and was never right :(
No idea how far this little spreader throws usually hold off about a quad and a half to 2 quad widths away from th last wheelings. Still go crossways becsuse its not very consistent especiially since we never have a day thats not windy.
As i found out when i first reseeded a grass field with it in full view of the main road :facepalm:

Sainfoin is quite dear here I think.
Can you get yarrow and rib grass out there?

That doesn't list Alberta as a place Ribgrass grows. Plus it's listed as a noxious weed :ROFLMAO:

Yarrow just grows wild here. There are plants around the yard but not in any large amount. Not sure where I would be able to get seeds from.... the garden store maybe. But it's listed as a sheep and deer feed more than cattle because of it's taste. I could do a test to see if they like the bitterness.

On my price list Sainfoin is $3.95/lb so it's actually the second cheapest on my list.

Years ago we had Yarrow start to take over a paddock at dad's. The cattle wouldn't touch it. In the end we ploughed 10 acres to get rid of it :inpain:

That's more expensive than here. £2.65 per kilo $1.20 per lb

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
