Could have a new Polaris in march if I wanted to pay price to swapThere’s a wait on all machines, 4-6 months on quads anyway

I hope you keep it secure or it could end up like my welderyes diesel - in thought it was expensive at the time
its been good and is a handy tool used most days
People used to walk too!Its a classic case of up selling when Honda trikes came out they where around £350.00 , they ultimately became big red shaft drive electric start etc £1500.00 then quads , then 4x4 quad then 500cc 4x4 quad then quad with power steering then gators , then gator with cab then with cab and diesel , then alloy wheels etc etc.
They do the same job in accessing land but the expectations are much higher, granted allot of years have passed buy since the inception of an ATV but also so have the expectations of what they are.
That’s peanuts compared to the future repair costs that it will incur…Just had a quote for a new JD Gator. £24k! Nothing else to add.

there is nothing wrong with the performance of a UTV (though they are slow on the road), but once its out of warranty the repair costs are horrifying. on a hill farm they basically need completely rebuilding every 3 years.Best quote I’ve had ( this month)
Polaris ranger diesel, full cab and heater £19k plus vat
Corvus terrain full cab heater , bull bar , opening front screen and tfm alloy canopy
£19250 plus vat
Our Polaris dealer took three attempts to return my call, then said there’s no stock until next year but offered a demo and 2 yrs interest free
Corvus had demo here then have new machine arriving tomorrow price inc on the road cost
It’s a big spend for a small farm but I gave the demonstrator some pain , tried my best in some really wet steep pennine hill land and it did ok for me
They are fairly new out and I suppose constantly improving
But with two yrs warranty and a good dealer I’ve give it a chance
Why not get 10K worth of 4x4, ideally one with a low box and decent heated seats and just drive around in that? Swap wheels and put some serious rubber on and you are away??
Could even keep it MOT'ed and use on the road?

My issue is just the weight and the amount of ruts it would make. Our little ranger goes anywhere with very little footprint but now everyhting is saturated if it starts to leave ruts and seal the surface,
depends on individual farms , neighbours have jimmny from kap
I’ve not seen it off road
I have defender 30 tdi and won’t travel half our farm
Buggy works for me , not everyone’s cup of tea I grant you but
I am old enough to not want another winter feeding and checking ewes on the moors by quad bike
guessing your defender isnt on 37 inch mud terrains then theres not many places my cruisers cant get and theyre only on 33 inch mud terrains and no modifications. still cruises down the a30 at 90mph comfortably which you cant do with a UTV (or defender actually) eitherdepends on individual farms , neighbours have jimmny from kap

Tbh im not so sure, the pickups ive had have never been much cop off road regardless of what tyres i fit despite them being a ton lighter than a landcruiser. i think its partly the drivetrain, which isnt proper permanent 4x4 and usually only 1 diff lock if your lucky (3 diff locks on an 80 series), and partly because you cant fit big tyres on a pickup without serious modification. narrowish 31.5" is the biggest i managed to fit on a hilux without problems. im sure a defender would be fine on decent rubber though. One some different footwear might not be such an issue? I've seen landrovers on LGP tyres before.
No it’s on standard size mud tyres , I is a steep wet farm where we areguessing your defender isnt on 37 inch mud terrains then theres not many places my cruisers cant get and theyre only on 33 inch mud terrains and no modifications. still cruises down the a30 at 90mph comfortably which you cant do with a UTV (or defender actually) either
if money were no object a UTV would be handy but they dont last long enough IMO
Having an additional quad bike, which i leave the little ewe and lamb trailer on almost permanantly, is an absolute godsend, and i wouldnt go back to having just 1. Aside from being a lot cheaper than a UTV, i find they last a lot better, and if needed i just unhook the trailer and can have 2 bikes to go chasing sheep around on at 55mph.No it’s on standard size mud tyres , I is a steep wet farm where we are
To be fair my old hilux , fourtrak and now defender can get about on most of it , if you like to leave big ruts
The buggy travels lighter on the ground is filled from the farm tank and suits us .., for now
The best compromise I found was a Honda pioneer we demoed, but with a tiny tray back and not even a windscreen plus the usual trek with Jerry cans for fuel I may as well have bought another quad
Yes the quad is invaluable here but .. my mrs turned outs over which got us thinkingHaving an additional quad bike, which i leave the little ewe and lamb trailer on almost permanantly, is an absolute godsend, and i wouldnt go back to having just 1. Drove one and thought it was brilliant, went like the proverbial but drunk like a Scotsman on New Years Eve.Quite like the look of a CAN-AM traxter.
both my quads together cost that (honda 420 and 500 both manual), are polaris bikes really that expensive?Drove one and thought it was brilliant, went like the proverbial but drunk like a Scotsman on New Years Eve.
Have settled for a new Polaris 570 at £10500 all in, hardly anymore than an equivalent quad and no need for the trailer most of the time. Let's see how that goes? Told it won't use any more petrol than a quad, the jury is out on that.
