GDT index slide continues in latest tender

The Global Dairy Trade (GDT) Index has now experienced three consecutive declines, finishing 1.7% lower after the latest event today, Tuesday (August 18).

The most recent tender – event 266 – concluded this afternoon, with the index down 1.7% – following on from a 5.1% drop at the last event on August 4.

Lasting two hours and 11 minutes, today’s event saw 159 bidders participate across 16 bidding rounds with 123 winning bidders recorded.

A total of 31,331MT of product was sold on the day.


Key results:

  • AMF index down 2.9%, average price US$3,873/MT;
  • Butter index down 2%, average price US$3,370/MT;
  • BMP not offered at this event;
  • Ched index down 3.6%, average price US$3,442/MT;
  • LAC index down 3.3%, average price US$1,303/MT;
  • SMP index up 1.1%, average price US$2,608/MT;
  • SWP index not available, average price not available;
  • WMP index down 2.2%, average price US$2,936/MT.


As can be seen, there were drops in the index across the board – except for butter milk powder (BMP), which wasn’t offered at this event, and skim milk powder (SMP), which increased by 1.1% to an average price of US$2,608/MT.

The sharpest decline in index was for cheddar (Ched), which fell 3.6% to an average price of US$3,442/MT.

Elsewhere, the butter index fell by 2% to an average price of US$3,370/MT; anhydrous milk fat (AMF) decreased by 2.9% to an average price of US$3,873/MT; whole milk powder (WMP) fell by 2.2% to an average price of US$2,936/MT; and the lactose (LAC) index decreased by 3.3% to an average price of US$1,303/MT.

As is typical, sweet whey powder (SWP) was not available on the day.
