J E Rees don't have much experience with this Same transmission, I don't think. They were not dealers until well after the company stopped selling them in the UK. But you never know. Ask tractordealer, wherever he's gone. Worth a try with J E Rees, certainly.

The gearbox is basically a front three speed epicyclic, like dual power only triple power, which is a beefed up version of the one fitted to the Silver models. Then there is a three speed constant mesh unit with conventional clutch pack selection in the back for the three ranges. There is also a traction clutch in the middle which is somewhat poorly modulated by the cab foot clutch pedal but fine if left to its own. The forward reverse is a mechanical synchro unit with robotised change, similar to that fitted to NH Range Command.

The combination of three power shifts and three ranges gives nine ratios. The salient point here is that between third and fourth, both the front pack and a rear pack change. Ditto between sixth and seventh. So there must be some pressure loss when the rear conventional clutch packs change.

To get eighteen gears, there is a synchronised range change and there is also a standard creep range giving another nine power shifts, only available when the main box is in low range.

Don't be surprised if a major repair cost somewhere around £10k plus on this kind of gearbox. It could be that you will be hard pressed to find anyone that will touch it, especially if they don't know you and suspect that you will quibble about the bill after the job is done.
