Not wanting to hijack the thread but today I was told by somebody who repeatedly wonders off the footpath with his dogs running about that "You wont stop me, its a beautiful walk here so do what you have to do"
So no doubt in future we will "do something" and then the public "hate" farmers for enforcing the rules! As I get older though I think perhaps none of it is worth losing sleep over unless it becomes truly confrontational... Most people just like a good argument but don't want any trouble....

Our parish council have taken it upon themselves to (illegally) put notices everywhere prohibiting HGVs from all roads round the village.

We used to get on with pretty much everyone in the village but in the last year the make up of the parish council has changed and is seemingly attempting to rid the parish of any industry or agriculture. I'm not prepared to let it lie and aim to fight it by every possible method.

Either complain to the local council/ highways authority and tell them that they have to remove the signs ( which by law if they are illegal they have to do asap ) or just go around one night and remove the signs and dump them on the local parish council chairs person's drive.

I have spoken to the guy and he has admitted they are not legitimate.

I then suggested to him I would be within my rights to put a sign at the end of the drive saying 'HGVs welcome in this village, disregard all red notices, Honk if you're horny!'
He couldn't really answer that.

I wouldn't bother putting up your own signs as you are then going down to his level, just go and take his signs down.

If you don't nip this in the bud the next thing will be banning tractors/ trying to get the council to put a work notice on you saying you can only operate between 8 am and 5 pm..

I can't imagine anyone in a housing estate being mad keen on people dribbling shite along the road or mud come to that.
I know farmers seem to think it's ok and normal but it isn't.
Quite right, no-one could expect them to notice the green fields and pleasant views as they bought their property or expected them to wonder how those views or fields are used and maintained.

A local pressure group put anti wind turbine signs up on many roadsigns round here, helpfully with their e-mail address included.
I complained to the council and they were down in days.
I would like to think that the council told them (as I suggested) to get the buggers down themselves and not send an employee round to do it.

Funny you should say that, until fairly recently I ran a fleet of up to 7 artic bulkers plus subbies. I said to my wife during one particularly stressful week with neighbours. I had less hassle then than I do now.

keep quiet and go about your job, they get bored in the end or in trouble

Don't even listen to them ,let her talk to herself some people you can not reason with, if she as the guts to video you in front of you she will be trouble for sure

That's the way. You've just got to ignore it. If you start to engage with them it'll become sport. You can't have eyes in the back of your head - and you don't want your vehicles or land targeted. I don't get on with many members of the public - or my neighbours. And I honestly believe it's them not us. It certainly wasn't that way 20+ years ago here

I would not engage with them at all just carry on as you would have done ,weight limits can not restrict access, they will be looking for a squabble and will have more time than you

A local farmer near me put 6' feather edged vertical boarding, painted May green on his recessed driveway entrance to keep undesirables out. The barn conversions set well back the other side of the main road complained to the council I guess. Wooden boards have now gone and been replaced with some low level very shabby tin sheets and a large curtainsider lorry. I guess the barnies are loving that.:) The moral of this is "Be careful what you wish for"
