We were after a dom, went and looked and we're keen. After a convo with partners about matters we decided to change direction and informed Rodney that we wouldn't be needing it. He came back to us with a large enough % knocked off.

His bloke is v knowledgeable, they get the pick if the best combines and I suppose that costs

Browsing around I've found two Tucano 430's.

One a 2010 model with 1300hrs, 650 tyres and a 20ft vario cut.

The other a 2013 model 900hrs, 800 tyres and a 17.5ft vario cut, this one £5k more than the first.

Would you say the wider cutter bar outweighs the other considerations and makes the first option the more appealing?

if you went for an older/higher houred bigger combine would you end up at less hours total after 20 years
ie start at 1000hrs put 100 per year on 3000
or start at 1500 and put 50 per year? 2500

not much point going massive if trailers gateways etc will just slow you down. but capacity would be handy for you to get some down if your only cutting in the afternoon. can also select better days.

you might have answered this with that lexion are mega £££ compared, I don't know prices.

Despite the narrower cut?[/QUOTE]

What advantage will the wider cut have?
5kph with 20ft or 6kph with 17.5. The vario header feeds well at any speed, smaller rows of straw dry faster if they get wet. If emptying on the headland you may not need a trailer at both ends.
The "vario" is the bit of the header that I think is more important than width, I would never go back to a fixed header. Getting an even feed is the most important thing for everything to do with combining.
