Had the glamorous job of cleaning some canola screens out today. I enjoy a good before and after series so they worked well for that

Took a couple pictures today because of a discussion on another thread about singles weighing more than multiple raised calves. I have a couple cows that raise multiples for me and while their calves don’t usually wean quite as high as the singles, the total pounds of calf weaned smashes what the single does. Plus the multiples always catch up in the long run, there’s no serious deficit.

In the view from behind, from left to right, is a single heifer born March 29; a single steer born April 9; and a heifer born February 21 who was raised with 2 other heifers on the same cow.

All three of these calves are by the same bull although the cows are all different breeds.

The two singles were weaned end of Oct/Nov. Multi heifer was weaned in Sept. So all were roughly 7 months at weaning.

At the workshop today we had a screening of Guardians of the Grasslands. It's a very short film, only 12 minutes, and doesn't delve too in depth but it hits many of the main relevant points about the importance of Native Prairie Grassland.

I'm not supposed to give the link out to the public however if you go to their website and request a screening they're usually fairly accommodating (and quick!) Definitely something I'd recommend.

I like the view of the Chinook Arch. Quite a scene. Calendar shot maybe?

I read that too about Timmies. That stuff wasn't in the stores down here that long. About 3 maybe 4 months at most. I know I see a lot of that type of stuff regularly marked down in my local supermarket. Small town, we have an Independent Store from Loblaws, not even big enough for a Save-Easy anymore. Loblaws wants him to carry it, but he can't hardly give it away in any volume.

Here’s an interesting one. I don’t think Timmies has even been offering it for that long. It flipped fast.

Makes a person wonder how the other chains are really fairing and how widespread it will be.
I ain't going back to A&W until they do the same,eh.???

This is what I don't get. If vegans are soooooooooo against meat. Why do they need a substitute that looks like and supposedly tastes like meat. Hippie s**t.

it’s not for vegans

it’s to tempt meat eaters into eating highly processed foods that the manufacturers have complete control ( & $$$$ profits ) from

absolutely nothing to do with vegans, ( or saving the planet ) everything to do with the agri industrial chemical & food processing industries . . .

real hippies wouldn’t have a bar of it . . .

they would rather eat a “veggie” burger or beans / lentils / peas protein substitute, or local organic / grass fed / free range meat, than “fake” meat

I’d say fake meat is the exact opposite of what any hippy or counter culture types would possibly accept

as I said - it is DEFINITELY NOT a vegan market they are aiming for
That is all a smokescreen

I would disagree and say Vegans is exactly who it's meant for.

Most Vegans are not Vegan for dietary reasons. They have idealogical, emotional reasons about saving animals. The fact they are eating a diet that is increasingly proven to be so unhealthy yet refuse to accept that evidence as much as any evidence put forth by the agriculture sector about farming practices shows they are not on that path for health reasons.

They do not care what garbage they eat, they can fix all dietary omissions with supplementation. As long as nothing involves animal products.

Vegetarians are much more likely to be the ones that are more health conscious. This is why there's various "levels" that sometimes eat meat, or eat eggs, or eat fish, etc. While they have ideals, they also have health goals. It's probably the rare Vegetarian that will prefer any Beyond Meat or Impossible Burger over an old fashioned Veggie burger.
