Getting problem cows in calf

Totally agree we serve as soon as I see bullying with in 12 hrs so next milking we’ve been over 60% conception rates
Yep. Breeding too early will have a slight drop in conception rate but not much. Breeding too late ends has a very sharp drop off in conception. It’s better to breed too early than too late.

Sexed semen is a bit different. It has an ideal time of about 16-24 hours after estrus.

was always interested to know how the likes of the genus rms service serve cows when in a yard once a day, if a cow is just on do they serve or wait 24hrs.

Once a day can work very well. You serve everything that is on at the time. The 0-4hr cows will have slightly lower than ideal conception but not much at all. If you wait until the next day they are now 24-28hr cows and conception is getting much lower.

The big issue is farmers thinking a cow is just on heat but even with checking 4 times a day she could have been on for 6 hours already. Instead of breeding her now you wait until the next day. She in now 30 hours or more and conception rate is in the toilet.

No it’s not proven 24hr later has more success.

Ideal time to AI is 4-16 hours after the onset of estrus.

Breeding later than this, even repeat breeders, you are going to average lower conception rates.

I've checked the notes, serve at 12hrs and 24hrs for 3rd service to where delayed ovulation may be the cause of non-conception.

Problem being is you don’t know if those third service cows are delayed ovulation. Most will not be. By serving at 12 and 24 hours you will still have one service in the optimal time frame at 12 hours so you won’t loose conception but the semen cost for those cows is doubled.
The claim that the first breeding isn’t required for those cows is just wrong and will cost you conception rate especially if the breeding ends up falling later than 24hours.

These views are not my opinion. It’s all from research by top repro guys all around the world.
