Global food supply

Probably has an obvious answer but this has been bugging me. Trump has upset China and they’re not buying US Ag produce at all now and probably won’t for a decade along with some other nations that fear the unpredictability of the US. I know China is buying soya from Brazil etc and the US farmers are struggling to sell their produce.

Does this mean that there is far too much food about on the global market? I would have thought who ever bought Brazil’s soya production a year or two ago would have switched to the now cheaper US product but there doesn’t seem to be any buyers, or is there?

I think there is far too much commodity product out there and it is quite frankly not needed, maybe the penny will drop one day.

Without doubt most commodities are in oversupply which of course leads to lower prices. The problem is a shortage will lead to increased prices but increased hunger in those countries unable to either produce enough or pay for it. Also reduced grain production will then lead to what most people on this forum seem to fear an increase in Vegetarianism or worse still veganism. That seems a bit flippant but we are a long way from starving even with our present diets and any shortage in grain/soya would probably lead to that being used to feed people rather than animals which is apparently what is going to save the planet.
